Villanova Football
Villanova's football team has advanced to the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs. They are 10-2, with losses to West Virginia (ranked 8th at the time) and James Madison, the #1 team in FCS which needed to catch a tipped hail mary in the rain to beat them. This Saturday Nova gets a rematch against Billy Madison. Should they win and go on to win the championship, do you think that could re-ignite FBS discussions and Villanova joining Big East football, putting an end to Split/Expansion talk forever?

I'm tempted to cheer for Nova in hopes that will put an end to it. I'm frustrated with everyone who could be working towards forming a new eastern conference waiting instead for that elusive Big East invitation. If Nova could remove that possibility, everyone could get on with their lives. Unfortunately, I have difficulty seeing Nova move up, even if they become a powerhouse at the FCS level.

I think if they continue their success at D1AA level they'll get more boosters and such. Could that be enough to go up to the D1A level and compete in the Big East, I don't know?

Animus is right. If you win, they will follow.

Well I think the first problem is the stadium. They don't have room to build a larger one and Temple has dibs on the pro stadium. They'd need to be willing to put down a large chunk of money for more land.

What about asking Penn for help? Im sure they would help out and let the Wildcats play at Old Franklin Field. That would be kind of cool to have a FBS school playing in a historic Ivy League stadium. They could schedule Penn as the opening game yearly.

Brian Westbrook + Howie Long = exposure

The question is could they have the resources to maintain FB WITHOUT cutting another program? Wouldnt they also have to offer a womens sport to offset the FB scholarships? They have a pretty extensive athletic program as it is.
