Lost one too.

Did we have an offer out to him?
Based on what I can find, no. WMU is listed as his only offer.

Kid said schools wanted to wait to see his senior film or already had other kids at the position in front of him on their recruiting board but WMU offered and he jumped on it.

Yeah from all I read it seems WMU was his only offer too. I wouldn't say we "lost" him. It seems more like WMU got him. We can't lose something we never had or asked for.

RE: We've got one!
In reference to the person who mentioned that if players can send tapes to many schools why did he only get only one offer. Most coaches that get unsolicited tapes usually throw them out or play them on the team bus and make fun of them. This is because you often get highlight tapes. These are worthless because you immediately wonder what happened between the highlights. If you are going to get a tape you want one of every play in the game in which the player was involved. Also you want to see more then one game. This prevents the player from sending a tape of a game against a weak opponent. The best way to get an offer is to play in front of university coaches. Camps are great because the coaches at a specific school get a long look at you and get to know you as an individual (Are you the type of person they want on the team).

Well he started last year for Mt. Carmel. They had many D1 prospects including one that went to Notre Dame. I am sure may recruiters had seen him play. All recruiters want to have a good reputation with Mt. Carmel because they churn out top prospects. If he was from a little town in Wisconsin, I would understand. He is from a football factory in Illinois. Schools knew about him but have not pulled the trigger. Why is the question.

For a little clarity, this string refers to Ben Samson who will be a senior offensive lineman this fall at Stevenson HS (Lincolnshire, IL). Both of my sons played there, and my younger son was a teammate of Ben's. I spoke with the Assistant AD at Stevenson a few months ago and he told me that Ben had really shown big improvement last season, his junior year. He's a real nice kid and I wish him luck with his upcoming season at Stevenson..........and his future career at WMU.

Good for the kid. Hard work really does pay off. Hopefully he has a nice career for WMU and loses every game he plays against NIU. 04-cheers

Surprised he didn't get an offer from NU or IL. From what I've read the knock on him is lack of quickness out of his stance.

I'm assuming you meant "not surprised"? I follow UI recruiting and had never heard of him until today.

I didn't see him play last year, but during his sophomore year he was as S...L...O...W as they come, and not just out of his stance. He wasn’t bad at run blocking if he stayed near his tackle spot, but was continually late getting to his assignments when required to pull (not an easy thing anyway for such a big kid that young). Apparently he has worked on that and is beginning to grow into those big feet of his. Again, good luck to him.

Another kid with only 1 offer...doesn't mean he is bad though.

I hope he has a great career at WMU, i really pull for all IL HS guys who play no matter what school. They do our state proud!

NIU was his first offer, which he earned after his performance at the Huskie camp. Not too bad of a start even though he had no other offers, as he seems like a pretty good prospect size-wise (6'2", 205) and can maybe be moved to play safety or WR if QB doesn't work out for him...keeping a pipeline going from Chicago and the Caravan is never a bad thing either.

WOW - No other offers - he must be awesome!!
Best. Post. EVER.
