Two officials quit top SJSU posts

Two vice presidents at San Jose State University have resigned, effective immediately, according to a memo circulated Thursday from the office of the university's interim president, Don Kassing.

Vice President and Provost Marshall Goodman and Vice President for Student Affairs Monica Rascoe have resigned, but no reasons were given.

Mr. Goodman will be on professional leave while Ms. Rascoe will serve as special assistant to the president, according to the memo.

Carmen Sigler has been named as Acting Vice President/Provost for Academic Affairs and Veril Phillips as Acting Vice President for Student Affairs. Both are well-known to the campus community.

A university spokeswoman said Mr. Kassing would have no comment beyond his memo.

The resignations follow by two days the retirement announcement of Chuck Bell, SJSU's athletic director since 1998. His retirement is effective Dec. 1, the university said.
