RE: NIU (0-3) @ Idaho (1-2) Game Thread
Lemme get this straight. The coaches play the second half nearly exactly correctly and force Idaho to throw the ball all the second half and then have to score with a minute left AND recover an onside kick, and in the end we win the game, and it's the coaches' fault that Britt Davis can't hold onto that onside kick when it's right in his hands, just like last week when he couldn't hold onto the perfect out-and-up route call?
Far too much is made of coaches being geniuses or idiots. In the end, all coaches can do is put 20 year olds in position to make plays. Larry English made those plays every chance he had, as did Justin Anderson. Idaho did a good job blocking our blitz packages late in the game, and we won. Bully to Idaho, but we won. Who won? We won.

Joe actually did a good job in not allowing the team to get down after on 0 -3 start.
+100
Don't blame Joe that's not his job coordinating the defense.
I'll give him credit for that. NIU came out and they were fired up.
Anytime you blow a huge ass lead, it does come down to coaching. NIU has blown THREE double digit leads this year. Luckily, they were able to win this one.
I like the potential this defense has. But I knew they were going to disappoint this year. I have no idea why they were talked up so much on here over the offseason. They had a great game against CMU, but overall, they were just pretty average last year. They are showing that they have the potential to be a dominant defense, but they also look extremely poor at times. I guess that's all the part of being a young defense, but I don't really think that they are going to be that strong this year.
I don't blame the defense. I blame Novak or our OC for always going conservative when we're winning. We didn't do anything in the 2nd half that would have kept Idaho's defense honest.
If they come out throwing late and Nicholson throws another pick 6, you would be complaining that we should have ran the ball.

Alot of it goes on the coaches as well as the players. Neither are blame free.
And why do you have Britt Davis on the "hands" team. That's an oxymoron if I have ever seen one.

QB two pick 6's.
QB int inside your own 15.
QB telegraphs pass that is INT'd immediately after we get a pick deep in enemy territory.
Shouldn't we be able to consider one of our WRs worthy of the "hands" team?

What's the common theme in all three of those games? Playcalling gets conservative, and the defense goes to utter crap because they're on the field because of the conservative playcalling. Who does the playcalling? The coaches.

And no, not if you have eyes.

So, our coaches can't trust our best QB to throw 5 yard passes or trust our best WR to make plays when the ball falls into his hands? Maybe we shouldn't have been hearing about how great #7 and #19 would be if we just benched #3 and got the ball to #7 more.

You NEVER blame the coaches. It's always the players. It's almost like you are related to a coach.

when you see dumb plays made, or balls go through someone's hands, it's hard for me to blame the coaches. You seem to be suggesting that we not allow our QB to throw deep balls or underneath balls, and not run our most physically talented WR deep or consider his hands to be a strength. Sheesh - no wonder we ran the ball so often in the second half.
