2007-2008 COLLEGE FOOTBALL BOWL TIE-INS
This is the beginning of what will turn into some sort of college football blog on NCAABBS. The main focal points will be analyzing the college football games that could impact the BCS picture, and the overall general bowl picture. We should get a different sort of set up later on, but for now we'll just post the articles on the message boards.

2007-2008 BOWL TIE-INS

-Teams are bowl eligible once they win seven games. 6-6 teams can be selected for bowls as well, but not until all of the teams with records of 7-5 or better from their conference have been selected. If a conference does not qualify enough teams to meet all of their bowl tie-ins, those bowls will select a team from outside that conference. If a bowl is forced to take a team from outside the conference it is tied-in with, they must take a team with a record of 7-5 or better if one is available.

-The bowls are listed in the order that they select, but that does not mean they must select a team based on where it finishes in the conference standings. In other words, the Chick Fil-A Bowl does not have to take the second place team in the ACC.

ACC

1. Orange (BCS) (Champion)
2. Chick Fil-A
3. Gator
4. Champs Sports
5. Music City
6. Meineke Car Care
7. Emerald
8. Humanitarian

BIG EAST/Notre Dame

1. BCS At-Large (Champion) (Notre Dame not eligible)
2. Gator or Sun (See Below)
3. Meineke Car Care
4. International
5. Papa John’s

-The Gator Bowl has the option of choosing second out of the Big East teams, or fourth out of the Big Twelve Teams. If the Gator chooses a Big East team, then the Sun Bowl will select fifth (not fourth) out of the Big Twelve. If the Gator chooses a Big Twelve team, then the Sun Bowl will select second out of the Big East.

-Big East Bowls cannot select a team with two more losses over a team that has yet to be selected. For example, if Louisville is 10-2, Rutgers is 9-3 and Cincinnati is 8-4 and it is the Gator Bowl’s turn to select, they can select either Louisville or Rutgers, but not Cincinnati.

-Notre Dame can only be selected to the Gator or Sun Bowl once every four years. This year they are eligible for both.

BIG TEN

1. Rose (BCS) (Champion)
2. Capital One
3. Outback
4. Champs Sports
5. Alamo
6. Insight
7. Motor City

BIG TWELVE

1. Fiesta (BCS) (Champion)
2. Cotton
3. Holiday
4. Gator or Alamo (see below)
5. Alamo or Sun (see below)
6. Insight
7. Independence
8. Texas

-The Gator Bowl has the option of selecting either second from the Big East teams, or fourth from the Big Twelve teams. If the Gator Bowl selects a Big East team, then the Alamo Bowl selects fourth out of the Big Twelve and the Sun Bowl selects fifth. If the Gator Bowl selects a Big Twelve team, then the Sun Bowl will take a Big East team and the Alamo Bowl will select the fifth Big Twelve team.

CONFERENCE USA

1. Liberty (Champion)
2. GMAC
3. Texas
4. Papa John’s
5. Hawaii
6. New Orleans
7. Armed Forces (If the Pac Ten does not have a bowl eligible team available)

MAC

1. Motor City
2. GMAC or Humanitarian (see below)
3. International

-The GMAC and Humanitarian have the option of switching tie-ins. The GMAC is tied-in with the MAC and the Humanitarian with the WAC. However, although they have the option of switching, they have never done so.

MOUNTAIN WEST

1. Las Vegas
2. Poinsettia
3. Armed Forces
4. New Mexico

PAC TEN

1. Rose (BCS) (Champion)
2. Holiday
3. Sun
4. Las Vegas
5. Emerald
6. Armed Forces

-The Pac Ten Bowls must make their selections by the order in which teams finish in the standings. If two teams are tied in the standings, then the bowls can pick among the teams that are tied. The Las Vegas Bowl has the option of selecting the fifth place team if they wish. If they choose to do so, then the Emerald Bowl must take the fourth place team.

SEC

1. Sugar (BCS) (Champion)
2. Capital One (must choose the team with the best remaining record, or a team within one game of the best record)
3. Cotton (if it selects a team from the West Division) (see below)
4. Outback (if it selects a team from the East Division) (see below)
5. Chick Fil-A
6. Music City or Liberty (see below)
7. Music City or Liberty (see below)
8. Independence

-Out of all the bowl tie-ins, this conference is easily the goofiest.

-If the Cotton Bowl wants a team from the East Division, they must let the Outback Bowl select a team from the East first.

-If the Outback Bowl wants a team from the West Division, they must wait until the Cotton Bowl selects a team from the West first.

-If the Outback wants a team from the West and the Cotton wants a team from the East, they have the option of trading.

-The Cotton Bowl has the option of selecting Notre Dame, but if they do select the Irish they cannot select them again for another four years.

-The Music City and Liberty Bowls rank the remaining bowl eligible teams in the order of their preference. If the two bowls have different teams ranked #1, then they get to invite their top picks. If they both have the same team ranked at #1, then the team in question gets to select which of the two bowls they’d like to go to. The other bowl will end up with their second pick.

-The Independence Bowl ends up with whoever else is left.

SUN BELT
1. New Orleans (Champion)

WAC

1. Humanitarian or GMAC (see below)
2. Hawaii
3. New Mexico

-The GMAC and Humanitarian have the option of switching tie-ins. The GMAC is tied-in with the MAC and the Humanitarian with the WAC. However, although they have the option of switching, they have never done so.

INDEPENDENTS

-Navy will play in the Poinsettia Bowl if they post a record of 6-6 or better.

-Notre Dame is tied in with the Big East bowls, as well as the Cotton Bowl via the SEC. They are eligible for all three this season.

-Army has no bowl tie-ins, but can be selected as an at-large if they go 6-6 and another conference fails to qualify enough teams to meet all of its bowl tie-ins.
