Just saw Sufjan. Kinda disappointed. It was 2 hrs., but it seemed kinda short. He only did one song for an encore, and it was "to be alone with you." I thought he might play "Decatur" or "Chicago" or at least a couple more songs. It was at a real small venue, an actual music hall, about 300 maybe. He was funny though, telling stories about the songs he was going to play, and made you look at the song a whole nother way. But the whole orchestra thing really bugged me a bit. I like him a whole lot more when he's playing the banjo. The orchestra set really gets to someone when they have to stand up, when everyone else is sitting, and you have 3 freakin' spider bites on your leg (not joking around) and you have to shift legs to keep some freaking blood moving so your legs don't tense up. But My Brightest Diamond, ahhh, I think I'm in love. She's a Goddess, an angel.

Yo La Tengo kicked some serious ass. Great show. Ira is crazy. He was just jamming on his guitar and putting forth a sh!t ton of energy. Georgia seemed a bit shy to sing, but she has such a tender voice. Haven't heard too much of them, just recently got into their music, but I love it. Great time.

Just picked up I Can Hear.. nice album. Thanks for the recommend. I enjoy I'm Not Afraid. Though that was the first album of Yo La's I heard. Really, really digging the new Feist. Got turned on to the new Bloc Party. Pretty alright.

Saw Animal Collective last night. Pretty decent show and only $10. Power went out 3 songs into the set, which was kinda a relief, because it was so hot and stuffy in there. But overall, I think they put on a pretty good show. They're pretty different, it's not for everybody. I was actually suprised at how much pre-recorded material they had. Not seeing them live before, I didn't know what types of instruments they used. I had a good time, no encores though. Which is a first for me. But the crowd was really into it, esp. when "We Tigers" came on. That was a blast. 04-rock

Saw KOL last Thursday. Nice, nice show. Started the day caBrewing. So I was nice and drunk before the show. Thank God I sobered up with some chinese prior. The Features and Snowden opened for them. Caught Snowden, they were overall lackluster. Though I've heard great things about the. KOL played a nice mix of all three albums. They crowd was really into it, esp the newer material. But I was pleasantly suprised at how many folk new the older stuff. Great show.

RE: Concerts
So I'm thinking about doing 3 shows in a matter of 4 days in a couple of weeks. First off the National in Cincinnati on 6/15, then Xavier Rudd on 6/17 in Covington, Ky, then Voxtrot on 6/18 in Newport, Ky. Three solid shows. Then Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, the Hold Steady, and Matt & Kim are playing a one day festival on 8/4 (I believe) in Covington. Hellz Yeah! This is turning out to be a pretty solid year for Cincy area concerts. I might have to go to a few of those shows by maself though. The Hold Steady have already been here twice in the past 6 months, and I couldn't make either show. Not gonna miss this one.

RE: Concerts
Was in Louisville the past three days visiting the pops and caught the National last night. Helluva show. Talkdemonic opened for them, followed by Shapes & Sizes. Talkdemonic rocked. Shapes & Sizes were ok, but the National rocked. I haven't heard too much of their material other than Boxer. But color me impressed. They put on a great show. Nice sized crowd, small joint. Want to catch them twice (yeah, twice in one day) on Friday here in Cincinnati.

Well, as a dad, it's come to this. I found a way to squeeze in a concert. Buckwheat Zydaco playing at Brookfield Zoo. 03-woohoo
We stayed for the first hour (scheduled for a 1.5 hr show). Even with having to leave early, it was great. I've wanted to see him for 10 years now. I knew the music would be good, but I underestimated how good of an entertainer he proved to be. Good stuff.

Now, if only I could get Lollapalooza to fall on Fathers Day next year. 03-wink

RE: Concerts
Just got back from my third show this week. Saw Xavier Rudd tonight. Excellent performance, awesome crowd, energy coming from all around. If any y'all get a chance to see him, I highly recommend it. Going solo tomorrow to see Voxtrot. Oh and Dyno, Buckwheat Zydaco played here for our Tall Stacks festival last October. I didn't get a chance to see it, but over the course of 2 days I got to see the Heartless Bastards, Ricky Skaggs, Wilco, Yerba Bueno, Medeski, Martin & Woods, and a host of other bands. I heard Buckwheat put on a stellar show.

RE: Concerts
So, shows, anyone??? I mean Cincinnati isn' exactly the hip spot for bands to play in, but maybe y'all don't feel the need to post your concert ramblings. Well I for one need to fill the void. Just saw Voxtrot. Wished they woulda played more older material, they've got such a Belle & Sebastian/ Smiths sound to them, I guess they're trying to get away from that. Sigh.

I'd share my ramblings if I could get to any shows....other than the free concert in the park we're thinking about going to, my next real show will probably be Pitchfork.

Please, keep the reviews coming. I need something to hold on to.
