COR1- Some sort of satellite mission. I'm not sure what 'FPA' stands for.
On Thursday morning, CJ and I were in the yellow room preparing
for the FPA acceptance test. At 7:45 CJ , while getting on his oompa
loompa uniform, informed me that we had a visitor. I was instructed to look
at the tacky mat into the clean room.
There was a small snake (approximate length 1 foot), approximately one half
of the snake was stuck on the mat. The snake had come in a lifted corner of
the lumilloy at the garage door wall in front of the tacky mat. The hole was
retaped down STRONGLY.
DC took a picture (we DO photodocument here on COR1). After some
discussion of CJ's discomfort and my "get out of my way I will deal with
it" attitude, CJ scooped the snake into a provided box. I took the
snake out into the daffodils near the door, lifted it out, and sent it to
freedom.
The FPA acceptance testing went smoothly.
Later that afternoon, GW returned with 8x10 pictures of our snake.
A learned snake guy, from the rear of the building declared it a baby
copperhead. Upon some discussion, it was agreed that the announcement was
true. I would like to make several points to the members of the COR1 team.
1. Kim was NOT wearing her glasses, and believed the snake to be all one
color. She never noticed the distinctive brown, copper and tan coloration
2. She also did not notice the distinct triangular head
3. Babies are also poisonous
I would like all of you to please take a few precautions in the future.
1. If you see a snake around GSFC, STAY AWAY. Triangular heads mean
poisonous. We can not afford to lose a member of the team to a medical
emergency.
2. If you see a snake in our COR1 area, simply walk away. Call security and
they can arrange for animal control.
3. Wear your glasses, and avoid snakes with pretty coloring.
4. Sam has suggested that we ring our entire room with tacky mats. I suggest
that that is overkill. I do not believe that we are in any danger of finding
another snake in our clean room. I checked the corners, and we are snake
free.
The story grows with every retelling. These are the facts.
Respectively,
KM
