(CBS) Last month, the U.S. Army announced 17 soldiers in Iraq, including a brigadier general, had been removed from duty after charges of mistreating Iraqi prisoners.

But the details of what happened have been kept secret, until now.

It turns out photographs surfaced showing American soldiers abusing and humiliating Iraqis being held at a prison near Baghdad. The Army investigated, and issued a scathing report.

Now, an Army general and her command staff may face the end of long military careers. And six soldiers are facing court martial in Iraq -- and possible prison time.

Those who mistreated the prisoner should become prisoners themselves. When we act like that, we are no better than the terrorists we chose to go after.

Just as there are bad cops there are bad soldiers. I agree that when our soldiers act like that they should be punished in kind. It takes a certain personality to make the military a career. Sometimes the screening isn't adeqaute to weed out the loony ones. Sometimes the pressure sends folks over an edge that they should not have been near in the first place.

I was watching "Band of Brothers" two weeks ago on the History Channel, and this instantly reminded me of how insensitive some soldiers came become after seeing a lot of violence and allowing it to become an almost daily part of their lives. Does this make them evil? Not necessarily. But these actions are not acceptable by American standards and hopefully will be dealt with correctly, quickly, and responsibly. But we need to remember that it is easy to sit here at our computers and condemn these actions, without having faced the same situations as the soldiers. Hypothetical Example: I would love being able to torture Osama if he killed one of my friends.

Personally I don't have a problem with the treatment of the prisoners. Obviously it was inappropriate but were talking about a dozen or so soldiers out of around a quarter million who have toured in the theater. I just love how the media will over saturate and over sensationalize this story while we hear nothing of the American POWs and hostages nor do we see the images of the masked gunmen using human shields, the media has done a piss poor job of covering the ongoing campaign in Iraq. Our Military is not only kicking ******, they are doing it in the most 'politically correct' and 'humane' way as possible. Unfortunately we have lost over 700 of our nations finest during the war on terror, that has taken over a year, just think, we lost over four times that amount in about 2 hrs on 9/11. Wake up people we will succeed and many many years from now the world, and more importantly the USA will be a better place. Man Im proud to be an American Veteran of Foreign War.

The media is responsible for the blood of Nick Berg, the courts martial itself is a circus with Al Jazeera having a front row seat to MC the cerimonies. We need to shift our military strategy to a more forceful resolution. For starters we should begin dusting the mosques which are housing insurgents and terrorists.

Lets see if the media gets all hyped up and "outraged" by this brutal execution of an American citizen. Obviously they're fair and balanced... aren't they?
