Did you know that Wal-Mart sells a more powerful desktop running Xandros Linux for under $200?

I stand by that statement that every person I've gotten to try Mandrake Linux OE has been thrilled and kept it.... without paying a dime.

Enjoy. I *highly* recommend putting Mandrake Linux 10.1 OE on there if you aren't happy with Xandros for whatever reason. I haven't used Xandros, but I heard it's designed to be graphically friendly to people using Linux that were use to Windows.

$499 Macintosh:
1.25 GHz G4 processor
40 GB hard drive
CD-R/DVD-ROM optical drive
256MB DDR SDRAM
ATI Radeon 9200 (32 MB, AGP 4x)
Onboard Ethernet
Mac OS X version 10.3 "Panther"

$199 Xandros Linux PC (Wal-Mart):
1.50 GHz AMD Sempron 2200+ (with 3Dnow+)
20 GB hard drive
Integrated graphics (64 MB)
Integrated 5.1 Channel AC'97 Audio
AGP 8x Ghx slot (unused)
Onboard Ethernet
128MB DDR SDRAM
Stereo Speakers
Xandros Linux Standard v2.0

The Macintosh --> though well over twice as expensive, is only slightly faster with more hard drive. For about $80 to $100 you could buy a fast 80 GB IDE hard drive and another 128 MB stick of DDR .. and that Macintosh will be eaten for breakfast by a Linux PC that is about 70% the cost. Big surprise (not).

From Wal-Mart: 3,000+ Free software applications that include Business and Finance, Education, Multimedia, Software development, Utilities, Web Authoring, Games (note: some games may require an AGP video card to run), and much more!

That doesn't include the tens of thousands of programs for free out there you can download and install.

GTS, this thread has nothing to do with Linux.

I was merely sharing that you could now have a Mac at a cheaper price point than what people have grown accustomed to.

I know -- I was just pointing out that even if the Mac is $499 --> You can still obtain a better, faster, more readily available and updateable PC for much cheaper.
