That sucks in my opinion. Chattanooga did that our last year in the SoCon when the women played at Maclellan Gym for two rounds then moved over to the Roundhouse. Beating UT-C that year might have kept Karen Kemp's job safe.

Lover knows not of what he speaks. There is Lacy Field House at nearby Milligan College. Milligan hosts several teams for other A-Sun tourney championships (Tennis, etc.). There is Viking Hall in Bristol (20 miles) etc. Lover must not leave the city limits of JC very often :joecool:

I'd say none at all. Every sport except basketball is a complete drain, and basketball struggles to break even at Mercer. I would bet the other a-sun schools are similar.

There are a number of BCS-league programs that don't make a profit, either. I wouldn't feel too bad about that.

There are roughly 30 athletic programs in the nation that are profitable.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but 30 is higher than what I would have guessed. Where did you find that number?

I believe I read it in the Chronicles of Higher Education. It has been some time since I saw the number, but I believe that is where I saw it.

I read the article yesterday, but I dont remember where I saw it. 22 out of the 318 teams or how ever many there are in D-I make a proffit.

It is a staggering low number of schools that are profitable. The same is with pro sports teams even though they appreciate over time.

What I meant by the comment was that each ASun school doesn't even come close to providing enough additional funding to their athletic budgets to make a real difference (new facilities, travel expenses, and promotions). Well-to-do D-1 schools on the other hand sells enough through tickets, merch, licensing to offset a good number of those expenses before tapping into their athletic budget.

I just don't like the idea of using NAIA schools and high schools to run a COLLEGE tournament, hence my liking of Nashville, Gwinnett County or Asheville.

The A-Sun is already using cooperation from NAIA schools to run their tourneys (tennis for example).

Also, remember, it hasn't been all that long since the schools in Nashville were NAIA. Asheville isn't going to bid on a money losing tourney.

I agree. I would rather not see it in Johnson City again.

UCF partially offsets its losses through activity fees that are lumped in when students pay their tuition. I don't know what the fee is now, but when I was last a student I believe it was around $11. The activity fees at UF and FSU are much lower, but obviously their athletic programs make a lot more money.

At ETSU, we don't believe in athletic fees.
