MACON, Ga. – Mercer’s men’s tennis team will take part in the 38th Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga., beginning on Sept. 23 and the championship matches scheduled for Sept. 26.
This will be Mercer’s first and only tournament of the fall season. The event will be an individual tournament including a singles bracket with 64 participants and 32 doubles teams who will also compete over the weekend.
The field includes Auburn, The Citadel, College of Charleston, Duke, East Tennessee State, Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida State, Furman, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Mississippi, Mississippi State, South Alabama, South Carolina, South Carolina-Upstate, Southeastern Louisiana, Stetson, Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, Vanderbilt, Winthrop, Mercer and host Georgia.
Singles play will begin on Friday at 8 a.m. and doubles competition will start Friday at 2 p.m. Second Round play for both singles and doubles will start on Saturday, and Saturday afternoon marks the beginning of the Round of 16 for the singles and quarterfinal play for the doubles. Sunday will feature the doubles semifinals as well as quarterfinal and semifinal play for the singles. Monday will conclude the event with the championships for both singles and doubles.
