They will probably but not certainly approve it. And if they do we will certainly be in the Sunbelt. For a whole host of reasons that may be the best move for us anyway. But, good luck to all the non bcs conferences. Go MAC! Go Sunbelt! :drunk2:

I believe it'll be the SBC because we're already in the SBC for most other sports. However, the SBC may only be a stepping stone until we get fully established as a I-A program. There are still "rumors" that the MAC may still be on the table but I'm doubtful that the MAC wants us.

also.....
I believe it will pass. I don't believe it'd be going to the Board for a vote if they didn't feel they had the votes in their pocket.

I would wager that WKU feels confident it will pass. I think you will see WKU announce a schedule after the first of the year with a lot of I-A games on it and that couldn't happen unless they were convinced they would be moving I-A. Since you can't get folks to make many schedule changes between November and January I bet we will hear about those changes then but it will be work that actually has already happened or is being negotiated.

I am 99% certain that the MAC is not an option in the near-term for WKU. There just isn't a compelling reason at this point for the MAC to expand.

The Temple experiment remains up in the air. The Owls only have a five year deal with the MAC doubt remains about the long-term viability of that program. If playing a MAC schedule does not produce winning football that draws fans you eventually have to question whether it makes sense for them to offer football. Temple is unlikely to ever consider a full membership in the MAC because it removes them from most of their best drawing basketball games, reduces their conference income, and increases their costs.

Under the Temple deal, the MAC has a balanced 12 team set-up for most sports except football. Adding WKU would make it balanced at 14 in football but unbalanced in other sports. A situation that could extend to football if Temple or the MAC choose to end Temple's membership in five years. Why add another mouth to feed in full conference sharing?

Now in four or five years if realignment brings changes to MAC membership, adding the 'Toppers could make sense for the MAC but under current conditions it does not.

By the 1rst of the year we will know for sure anyway. The vote is Nov. 2nd.

Also, we have been contacted by Indiana and Navy, and if you believe what you read on the haven then we have been contacted by Virginia and Army for home and home games.

We may only get one shot at this. Elson needs a BIG recruiting class this coming year.

Actually there is good reason for WKU to join the MAC. With the addition of Temple, there is one more team in the East division than the West. Also it would give the MAC a bit better basketball profile.

BUT, if Temple leaves (or is asked to) when their 5 year committment ends the MAC has 13 for football and all other sports. 13 isn't conducive to good schedules in the other sports. Temple drew 16,000 and some change for the then #13 team in the nation. What happens when the MAC schools start rolling in? How much longer will Temple fund football if the market continues to demonstrate such a lack of interest?
