Dixon Shines as Troy Upsets Western Kentucky, 76-49
Jim Stephan 01/19/2006

TROY, Ala. -- Bobby Dixon finished one rebound shy of a triple-double, adding 18 points and a school-record-tying 16 assists Thursday night as Troy upset preseason Sun Belt favorite Western Kentucky, 76-49, at Trojan Arena.

Boo Ramsey, who needed five stitches postgame to close a cut on his forehead, hit seven of 11 three-pointers enroute to a game-high 21 points. Sammy Sharp tallied 16 points on eight of 10 shooting, five of which came on alley-oops from Dixon.

Benson Callier led Western Kentucky, who had won six straight but fell to 12-5, 4-1, with 13 points and eight rebounds. Courtney Lee posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

"I think this was very important to show us that we can compete in the this league," said Head Coach Don Maestri. "It was an exciting night for us, creating Basketball as an event in town and on campus. We caught Western Kentucky on an off night and had six-seven-eight guys who played above their heads. Bobby played his heart out."

Belated congratulations on the big victory. BUT if we see you again in the Sunbelt tourney don't count on us shooting 30% again.

WKU shooting
I *never* expect WKU to go 30 % again. Everyone in Troy has the highest respect for WKU and we know your teams history and tradition. That's why we considered it to be such a big and important win for the Trojans. Believe me, we know we still owe a game in Bowling Green and we don't expect it to be easy.

Thanks for the kind words and best of luck with the rest of the season, until you meet the Trojans again.

GO TROJANS!

Did I read correctly that you all are coming to the east next year? If so, do we get a return game or will we go directly into the home in home? Anyway, here's to hoping for a great rivalry in years to come. Good luck to you also (provided that you do not play WKU.)

PS- do us a huge favor and beat Little Rock when they come down there.

Troy will be heading to the East when ULM joins for all-sports. ULM will join the west.

Next year, it will be a home-and-home between Troy and WKU, as is the case with all division opponent's. What happened this year was a one-time thing.
