I saw that news in the AA paper yesterday but I didn't see a reason given. We usually attend with friends but Friday nights aren't good for me (work, you know), especially with a 7:00 pm kickoff. It's going to be difficult to even get to Ford Field in time for the start of the game. Also, Greektown will be crowded and there's no time have dinner before the game. I've never been impressed by the overpriced food and drink at the stadium. I think we will be taking a miss on this year's game. I wouldn't be surprised to find attendance down, at least among the outstate EMU fans.

hope it
doesn't conflict with a Tiger World Series game the same night. ;-)

That would cause some kind of traffic jam.

and it would kill attendance too.

Just another example of the MAC selling it's soul and scheduling a big game on a weekday to get it on TV. When will they learn?

I think different, guys
I think the NFL might have a rule about scheduling other games in THEIR stadia the day before the NFL team does.

The EMU/NW game seems to have been switched AFTER the NFL announced their schedule and the Lions were determined to be at home that Sunday.

Like, the stadium needs to be picked and cleaned up.

both teams need to have their walk throughs the day before (and that also requires access to locker rooms). I bet the NFL is absolutely dead serious on this one. NO way are four teams going to access the lockerrooms the morning of the day before a NFL game.

who knows
IF the Tigs make the World Series again and the AL hosts games #1 and 2 like in '06, Det would host games on Sat and Sun night.

That would be chaos to have an afternoon FB game Sat and a WS game that evening.

It could be a blessing to have the EMU game switched to Friday night.

Last year the streets around Comerica were jammed starting in the afternoon that Saturday.

For game #2 Sunday night and 65K Lions fans are downtown in the afternoon for a FB game, like gridlock city...

For anyone who isn't a Tig fan, the number of folks around Comerica for WS game #1 was probably 2 times the capacity of Comerica.

Comerica was full at 7:00 and the streets and bars were also full. Folks couldn't get into jammed bars all over downtown.

I posted it a day before it came out in the paper (coincidence), but I was told that at the spring game by 3 different coaches. When I asked why, I was told the same story, if you can find the schedule somewhere it shows the CHSL championship being played there, they have a contract with Ford Field for that. Was it a scheduling error?..maybe, but that is why the switched it to Friday. There are 2 high school games that Saturday..actually wouldnt have beena bad idea to fit all 3 games that same day..start the CHSL C/D game at 11 followed by EMU,NW, then the CHSL A/B game.....but if they did that we wouldnt be able to get a cold expensive beer....lol...

interesting
you have the sources.

now my question is that EMU has Ford Field Friday afternoon/evening,

High school games Saturday.

When do the NFL teams do their walk-thrus, etc.???/

I can't believe a NFL team would allow themselves to be orphans in a stadium they own.

Good question, EMU doesnt have the field until Friday evening so maybe they will do it before that, and I know the CHSL games are evening also, the championship game is at 7 i think with one game before that.......im sure thay could do their walk throughs before that....im not sure....

Sounds good by me, E'Warrior
Maybe that is why EMU is Friday night to make Ford Field available Saturday morning for the NFL and Saturday night for the preps.

A 1:00 EMU game on Saturday would obviously be a disaster for all.

No way could one have the two NFL walk throughs in the morning and then EMU/NW and then an hour after the EMU game ends the preps.
