When all this re-alignment crap :bang: is over, should we consider inviting a school to be a baseball only member (if/until North Texas adds baseball) to give us two 6 team divisions like we will have in basketball. Some team (for example purposes only) like Texas A&M-Corpus Christi?

East
Middle Tennessee
Western Kentucky
Troy State
South Alabama
Florida Atlantic
Florida International

West
Arkansas State
Arkansas-Little Rock
Louisiana
New Orleans
ULM or LaTech?
12th team???

I just think that if pressure is put on UNT to add baseball, it would speed up the process, besides, adding a baseball only member would only further add to teams who are with us as fulltime+part time. With this realignment, within the next couple of years it seems like were gonna have a jillion teams in our conference. Just to much all at once, we should just wait it out and as a league push for UNT to add.

Also, dont forget, its in the long term plans for UNT to get baseball, how do you get rid of the assosiate member of the league when UNT gets it back. Its a similar problem to what would happen with ULM if La Tech becomes available, or the situation with Denver, now the league office is worried about making sure they have a home away from the belt.

Not sure but I believe a UNT poster said it would be later rather than sooner for them to add baseball. But I do see your point about a "baseball only" member.

I could have swore I saw one of the UNT fans say that plans to build a baseball stadium is in the works for 2007, which would be around the time frame you were talking about after the realignment crap is over. If its even in their plans for any time within the expected lifespan of the sunbelt, then we need to leave the last spot open for them.

This was posted on UNTbbs by untgeorge:

a baseball stadium is in our long range facilities plan. Way down in the priority, but in the plan. No date is attached.

All we need is:
- the two or three million,or whatever, it would take to build the stadium
- the $500,000 plus per year it would take to operate a baseball program
- the $500,000 plus per year it would take to operate the women's sport we would have to start, to satisfy Title IX

In other words, it will be a while. Don't hold your breath.

I don't think we would add another team until UNT gets it's baseball program, b/c then in a couple of years we would have to tell that team to take a hike. I think no programs would want to join a conference only for a few years and then would have to leave it.

I wouldn't count on UNT being in the SBC by the time we start Baseball. Definately, a baseball member is required. Either add an only-member, or get someone else to start it. NT's distracted by the good 'ol Dallas naming game: American/ Southwest Airlines Field at Domino's/Pizza Hut/Cici's/Pizza Inn Stadium. Pick a corporation...any corporation. Even the Mattress King will do. 03-wink
