bas loss
this was the key game in some ways on the road trip so the loss hurts.
payne is from Philly and in his homecoming he puts on his worst show ever. If we hit a third of our threes we win. tino and kent played great, very efficient. Unfortunately, the two guys whose shot was off took the most shots (Ingram and Payne). Sounded like the defense was good, and we did OK inside. The refs put Drexel on the line all night and it was a very tightly officiated game. I wouldn't be surprised if we come back and play well at Vandy. This was a tough luck night shooting the ball, and Vandy does not have their typical postseason caliber team this year.

Aw hell.
Fire! S.....just kidding...
The problem is Stan isn't a bad coach, he's very likable, and his teams have some of the highest GPA's and graduation rates in the country. If you can imagine being the boss of someone who does what you ask and that you like, but comes up just a little short - it would be tough to fire him or her. Firing Stan would be bad PR and there's no guarantee the next coach would do any better. The only way to pull this off would be to promote Stan to a non-coaching position and hire a very good and probably very expensive coach. I don't know if UT is ready to do that so I figure I'm just going to get used to wearing this ugly fuschia dress because we're going to be nothing but bridesmaids for the foreseeable future.

I'm disappointed with the loss but I still think this team will show a lot this year. It's early and I expect Toledo to struggle in their OOC part of the schedule because most of it is on the road and they are playing some rough competition. It's tough winning outside your conference and away from your home. Now, when the conference slate begins then Toledo needs to take care of business in order to get a 1st round bye in the MAC tourney.
Remember, it's not how strong you start, but how well you finish.

It would just be nice to both start and also finish strong (for once).

Hi guys - DU fan here. Your team put up a good fight on Wednesday night, and put a scare into us for sure.
I know you were picked very high in the MAC this year, and you seem to have talent to back that up. Couple points/questions from the game.
1) You got hurt a lot by poor decisionmaking on offense. A lot of hurried shots, and not a lot of patience.
2) Your O didn't seem to run many sets...do you usually play a more structured offense? I ask because Drexel generally plays very good defense, but I couldn't tell if the looks you guys got were the result of a bad game plan, execution, or just good D.
3) You guys are solid defensively, and pretty quick. The only thing I saw missing was quickness down low.
4) For the record, bad officiating all around.
Anyway, good luck this season, and DU fans are pulling for you (for RPI reasons, of course! :) )

Gee, number one on your list will come as a huge surprise to long time Rocket watchers. Of course we hope Drexel finishes second in the NCAA Tournament and we finish .500 against you. Good Luck.

Our coach seems to address one weak area donly to have another appear. the exception to that is defense as Joplin seems to do well coaching a tenacious defense. Toledo doesn't really run any offensive sets and so we're usually out of position when the shot goes up. Because of this we don't do well on the boards so either we're hot or ice cold with no second chance points. When the offense is clicking it's fun to watch but other times it's downright painful. Alot of times we'll play up to or down to our opponent. We'll go into Lansing one night and beat MSU, then come home and loose to IPFW. Joplin's recent recruiting class seems to indicate he may be trying to widen and vary the offensive style which could nudge us into post season play. We'll see.

I have grown weary of this excuse.
The old "no guarantees & the next guy might stink too" never saved any coach his job except here at UT.
