SwampHound a Question for you, I need a little ed'cation.

Why are the games against MTSU & ULM considered conference games and not the others?

TSU was added in football for this upcoming season, and due to previous scheduling arrangements, they are forcing us to have Designated Conference Games this next season.

Troy State is still planning on playing at Marshall this year. That is, unless they back out because they don't want their behinds handed to them again.

Troy State's offensive is still very questionable, as is who will be the quarterback. A very talented D.T. McDowell could be major competition for current starter Aaron Leak.

So here are my predictions:

Marshall - W (we did it once, we can do it again)
Missouri - W (we didn't lose a single game at MGS last year, don't plan on losing any this year either)
LSU - L (stranger things have happened, but unless LB sells his soul to Satan, I cant see TSU winning this one)
South Carolina - W (why not?)

Beign optimistic-- 2 w's, 1 l

Texas--we'll fight til the end, but let's be realistic! Loss

Baylor--we'll fight til the end, being realistic, HUGE WIN!

Colorado--If Cobbs is healthy and we figure out our new found offensive weapons, we can win this. It wouldn't shock me, but it wouldn't shock me to lose this either. Win

So here are my predictions:

@ Arkansas: Loss 42-24: Aggies play hard but can't pull off the upset

@ California: Win: 28-21: if Aggies stick to one QB & play well

vs FIU: Big Win 55-3: Aggies welcome FIU to D-IA football

Remember where you are playing---

*Marshall 98-5 at home since 1991 (New Stadium)
*Stan Hill Marshall QB will be back 100%--GG won't have a 3rd Grade concussion and have to be lead back to the huddle
*Watts Gone but Davis steps into the #1 reciver and Moore the #2 guy
*With Wallace gone Charles steps in as the #1 back and Tank the #2 guy with Fitzgerald #3, you may have heard of his big brother Larry
*We may have the best center in all of college ball on red shirt transfer from Miami OH last year, Echels
*Pruett has yet to lose to Back to Back games to an OOC oppt. while a head coach at Marshall

I respected Troy even after the win last year until about a week after the game. Until I leaned that some of their players were disrespectful after the game. And then some of their fans took on a whole new attitude. If Marshall goes up on Troy come this fall I hope Pruett doesn't call the dogs off. And on a couple times he has hinted around if the chance is there he won't

The above games are out of conference games, the Sun Belt Conference designated certain games as conference games (for example Arkansas State's game vs Memphis will be counted as a conference win or loss same with the Cajuns game vs LaTech). Since FAU and FIU are not officially in the conference until 2005 I guess there are only a couple "official" conference games between FAU/FIU and some of the other SBC teams but I would bet that every game between the Florida schools and the Belt teams are treated as conference games on the field by the coaches and players. :D

I think as of right now the only "official" conference games between the Florida schools and Belt schools are

UNT vs FAU, 09/11
ULM vs FIU, 10/16
NMSU at FAU, 11/13

It does stink for all of us. Think about Troy State probably getting Marshall as a designated conference game or Arkansas State who get Memphis as a designated conference game. Very tough. I hope by 2005 we have 12 full members and at least 8 of those have 1-A football teams then we won't go through this BS.

I don't see Marshall backing out on Troy State when they also play Georgia and Ohio State. If they are not afraid of Georgia and OSU, why would they be afraid of Troy State.

I also don't see Troy State beating Marshall in Huntington. Don't forget Marshall played with their backup QB after their starter went out in the 3rd game of the season. That starter will be back for this fall and the their team should be much better this fall.

Missouri - No way! QB Brad Smith will eat TSU alive. Missouri is very good.

I think the Cajuns a year or two ago, had some OCC games that were really tough, and it hurt us in the conference race.

That "starter" QB for Marshall didn't play and they beat K-State. He DID play vs Troy. We can stop the Herd offense, but it's what our offense (and special teams) will do that will determine this one.

Rocketfan, how's Toledo going to be this year? The MAC looks like it will be wide open, especially since Rothesburger (sp?) left early.

I am pretty sure Stan Hill did not play again after getting hurt against Tennesse. If he did play against Troy State, that was the only game after Tennesse that he did play in so he must have been pretty hurt and not near 100%.

Also, playing in Huntington is a million times tougher than you can imagine. We've had to play there 4 times in the last 7 years. Not fun.

Toledo is loaded on offense this fall. We return our QB (junior Bruce Gradkowski) who led the nation in completion percentage. He threw 27 TD's and only had 9 INT's. We also return the nation's leading receiver (senior Lance Moore) and a freshman all-american in sophomore WR Steve Odom. We only lose 3 starter on offense.

Our defense should be better too.

The MAC has some bad teams, but the top 4 or 5 in the MAC are awfully good. Picking who will win the MAC is like playing the lottery. Each of the below teams should have strong consideration in winning the MAC this fall:

Toledo
Northern Illinois
Bowling Green
Marshall
Miami University

I hope we surprise both of you with a tough game. I'm not sayin we'll win or anything but I don't believe these will be blowouts to this extent. Either way I look forward to the competition :D
