Murfreesboro, Tenn. - Troy State scored twice in the first and Brent Adcock made it stand up with eight innings of two-hit pitching, as the Trojans defeated Middle Tennessee, 2-1, in the first of a two-game series Monday afternoon at Reese Smith Field.

The Blue Raiders (14-5) lost their second game in a row after winning 10 of 11 and suffer two straight defeats at home for the first time since April 19-20 of last season.

Troy State (13-6) rebounded from two losses in three games over the weekend at Lipscomb behind a career-best performance from Adcock (2-1), who went eight innings and struck out nine, both career highs. Nate Moore allowed a leadoff single in the ninth before getting three straight outs to record his third save of the season.

Middle Tennessee starter Shay Horseman (0-1) also had a career-day in the loss, setting career-highs in innings pitched (6.1) and strikeouts (10). Horseman retired 17 of the last 19 batters he faced after allowing two runs on two hits in the first.

The Trojans got on the board with two runs in the first. Leadoff batter Adam Godwin was hit b y the pitch and scored two batters later on Casey O'Quinn's double. Tommy Stewart's two-out single to left plated O'Quinn for a 2-0 TSU lead after a half inning.

Middle Tennessee couldn't do much with Adcock, managing just one hit through four innings before the Trojans defense gave up a run in the fifth.

Michael McKenry reached on a two-out error by TSU first baseman Stewart. An infield single by Chuck Akers put runners on the corners before another error, this one by Trojans third baseman Tab Beadle on a grounder by Eric McNamee, allowed a run to score and cut the TSU lead in half to 2-1.

Adcock retired the last nine batters he faced before giving way to Moore in the ninth.

The two teams conclude the series Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Reese Smith Field. The Blue Raiders open Sun Belt Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at New Mexico State beginning Friday.
