NIcholson had one drive in the fourth quarter after the game was already decided, I don't know how you can decide how well he played after one drive.

Is it just me or did we look very tight at the beginning of the game?
Gotta pick up the pieces and get ready for the Bobcats.

Well, that's all she wrote, folks.
If you'll permit me to throw in a few words, I'd just like to suggest you not take this one too much to heart. Once your guys got settled in, they really held their own. Garrett Wolfe was as advertised, I was really impressed not just with his speed/physicality, but especially with the way he uses his blocks. I love the effort put out by your WR's and TE's on downfield blocking. THey were cleaning up out there. I've always been of the impression that you can look at the enthusiasm of blocking wideouts and use it as a measure of good coaching, and your guys really did you proud.
Your defense did as much as they could. They fought hard all day. I think this was truly a case of 'worst possible matchup' for your personnel.
That Nendick (did I get that right?) guy is one hell of a kicker. His 37-yard FG (I think that was the one) looked like it would have been good from 50+. Easily.
I saw a lot of complaining about scheduling the upper tier B10 teams, but consider this: Your players have now been tempered in one hell of a forgefire. They're not likely to see this level of competition in conference play. They're fired up and ready to go, and I have every belief that you will kick some serious booty once you get into the meat of your schedule.
I've had fun around here, folks, and I'll try and stop in from time to time just to check in. Thanks for all the hospitality and best of luck with the rest of your season.
...Oh, and for those of you who got to the game, I hope you had a great time, and will look favorably upon your visit to good ole Cow-town.

Throw out the first quarter and we were not too bad. Secondary plays way too soft (this goes back quite a few years). I saw one play where we gave the reciever a 7 yard cution when they only needed 4 for the first down.
Best quote if the game had to be "Hand off to Wolfe. Thats usually a good play."
The ABC guys gave Garrett a lot of props today.

Throw away the ugly start and I'm pretty pleased. GW was as good as expected and our defense settled in there in the 2nd quarter on. I think we're in for a very fun season.
Now let's take our 600 k and go beat Ohio U!

Good post. Our receivers do like to block downfield and it's a big part of Wolfe's success. I have to give credit to some of the blocking that enabled Wolfe to do what he does. Our receivers seemed to be invisible for most of the game and I don't know if it was our QB being gun-shy after the interception or what. He was off all day, throwing off-target to his receivers. He looked a little star-struck early in the game, though playing at OSU I can understand that. Our defense made some mistakes that will cost us. Although teams like Toledo and Akron don't have offenses quite like OSU, they will make us pay if we continue to make mistakes on 'D'. Hopefully we can look at the film and make corrections.
NIU was trying to keep Ginn in front of them and he still managed to get past us. Well, good luck against Texas. Hopefully nobody got any serious injuries out of this contest.

If you throw away the first 16 minutes of the game, there are plenty of good things to look at, Wolfe running well, the D stepped up, and the play of the special teams

One perspective:
Phillips' mantra is world class experience for NIU athletes.
I'm good with such mantras.
Ginn IS a world class athlete and Smith is not too far behind.
You expected results otherwise?

Well, that sucked i thought that we would be able to hang tough with them man our defense really sucked secondary was horible, but things did look ALOT better in the 2nd half. At least we scored and didn't get emabarrased too bad even though that was a sad performance. Man i thought the score would be ALOT closer...maybe like say 38-21-OSU, but i just hope we cn do better next week. see you guys at the game!

Flying Corn Wrote:HuskiesComeOnYouHuskies Wrote:Flying Corn Wrote:Huskie-82 Wrote:The problem is the size of our D-line. There's nothing you can do about that. We just can't compete with the size of OSU's line.
meanwhile, Akron is still hanging w Penn State...
They're down 17-0.....that game is over too........
Of course they won't win, but they're keeping it respectable. They look a lot better than us...
Penn State is not as good as OSU. OSU will win the Big Ten this year. I feel that good about our Huskies. Losing to a team like this years OSU Buckeyes is no disgrace.

Hey guys, rough start but Wolfe is better than advertised. I expected him to get somewhere around 100 yards but WOW. I hope that showed how good Wolfe was and not how bad the new D is. The offensive line was also very impressive. You guys should be proud, the team never stopped fighting even though they weren't close after getting behind big.
Overall I think NIU is still the class of the MAC, but other than Wolfe and the O-line was clearly outgunned in this fight. I think that shows in despite huge numbers for Wolfe, they only managed 12 points and gave up 35 with Ohio State leaving 12-20 more points on the field (2 missed FG and two unforced fumbles inside the 10).
Good luck the rest of the season, after the Bobcats this week that is.

Just got back from Columbus. Hope all of you who made it down to the game had a good time. Despite the final outcome, you guys have every right to believe that you will destroy the MAC.
Wolfe can ball - seriously. You guys ran the sweep like eleventy billion times to the right and got atleast 15 yards each time with Wolfe toting the rock. Very impressed with his speed and toughness. We got a lot of work to do if we're gonna have a chance of beating Texas next week.
With some adjustments here and there on each side of the ball you guys will be ready to dominate your conference and go on to a bowl game.
