That's great news, I think they will make it with the teams they signed with. I hope to see them on the field in the future for their teams.

Great news for Fred and Wendell!! I was hoping to see them sign with the Saints so I could watch them every Sunday, but then realized the Saints would do the same thing to Fred and Wendell what they did to Jake.

Two More Cajuns Headed to NFL

Monday, Apr. 26, 2004

LAFAYETTE – A pair of former Louisiana football players signed NFL contracts on Monday. Wide receiver Fred Stamps was inked by the San Francisco 49’ers and safety Wendall Williams signed with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Stamps, a unanimous First Team All-Sun Belt selection this past season, finished second in school history in receptions (180) and in yards (2,789) and third in touchdowns (19). He was a Second Team All-Louisiana selection in 2003 and a First Team All-Sun Belt selection in 2002. Stamps owns the second (201) and third (198) best receiving yardage games in school history and the second (13) best reception game at UL. His three touchdown catches in the last game of his career tied a school record.

Stamps has the fourth and fifth best receiving yardage seasons and owns the fourth best reception season as a Cajun. He caught at least one pass in every college game, leaving the Cajuns with a receiving streak of 44 consecutive games, the fourth best streak in the nation, and longest in school history. The New Orleans native led the team in receiving yards and touchdown catches in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. He notched nine 100-yard and one 200-yard receiving game.

Williams found his calling as a free safety after beginning his college career as a wide receiver. In 2002, Williams returned a blocked punt 18 yards for a touchdown at Arkansas. Last season, Williams led the Cajuns with three interceptions. He added 30 tackles, four pass break-ups and a forced fumble. The Baton Rouge native saw increased playing time as the season progressed, playing in a season-high 51 plays in the final game of the season at Middle Tennessee.

Stamps and Williams join seven other Cajuns currently under NFL contracts; Anthony Clement (ARI), William Delahoussaye (MIA), Jake Delhomme (CAR), Brad Franklin (SEA), Brandon Stokley (IND), Ike Taylor (PIT) and Charles Tillman (CHI). Brian Mitchell, the NFL’s career leader in total yardage, has not yet signed with a team after being released by the New York Giants on Feb. 25.

Sounds like the Sun Belt players are making it by signing free agent deals. Congrads to all the SBC players that signed deals this week.
