Just wondering if anyone knows if there are any players that the Cajuns are after that might be leaning our way or that the Cajuns have a good shot at. I know it is still early, but this is the time when recruits are won and lost. Thanks in advance.

It is late to be getting real good commitments. LSU, Michigan, USC and several other big schools have already several commitments from really good athletes. They started way back in March. Here it is almost June and we don't have the first one. By the way, Joseph Hadnot, DB, from Lufkin, Texas commited to the cajuns on June 6, 2003.

It seems like I am all by myself on (early)!! recruiting . Oh well I'm not the AD, Head football coach, or even water boy, so what do I know about recruiting. I guess LSU was just lucky last year to win the national championship and just maybe they just might be lucky again in 2004. I guess it doesn't help to be the number one'' recruiting college in the country for the last three years. Well 56 is not to bad or is it. Only time will tell and it seems like the cajuns have plently of it.

red, I don't think anyone would disagree that getting early commitments would be wonderful but I think most of us are not at the point to agree with you that by late May we should have the same number of verbals as LSU. We cannot and should not be comparing our program to LSU. We are both at different stages, it would be like comparing your newborn to your teenager. On the football field we are just a toddler. LSU just won the national championship. After years of neglect we finally are starting to grow. I came down from Mississippi (where I was living at the time) and watched our team play UNT in Coach Bustle's first season. I could not believe how small our team was and how far down so quickly we had come since my college days (graduated in 97'). I was used to seeing players like Delhomme, Stokley, Thomas, Alexander, Mason, and Cotton. Last season I went to every home game and with the exception of the home opener vs LaTech, we were in every game and ended up going 3-3 at home. We are getting better and getting better recruits. When we start winning on a consistent basis we will get even better recruits and start getting earlier and earlier verbals. Keep the faith.

Swamphound, you are probably right I am too anxious to see a winning season but nine years is a long time. I just wish for a blue, blue chipper to committ now, just one. Thanks for your understanding and support.

If the type of player we need is being recruited, an early commitment will be very rare at this point. A blue chipper will be even more rare. Early commitments by players are by and large worthless anyway except for publicity purposes. This staff most likely has to take the approach that they will have to gamble on some players with potential that aren't ready to play in the SEC, Big12, etc. & take solid players who didn't get the offers they had hoped for. Then they have the responsibility to grow em up & coach em up. Believe me, upgrading the facilities such as the weight & locker rooms alomg with this indoor facility we've been hearing about for going on almost 2 years will help immensely in recruiting almost as much as winning. Hell, killing the weeds that grow in the stands and along the wall of the stadium would help.
