Gunning, Diamond, Cotto, Walters and Peterson receive top honors

Mobile, Ala. — The Sun Belt Conference announced its annual baseball honors tonight at the 2004 Dodge Sun Belt Conference Tournament Banquet at the Aircraft Pavilion of the U.S.S. Alabama in Mobile.

Western Kentucky senior outfielder Matt Gunning was named the 2004 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year. Thomas Diamond, a junior from New Orleans, was named Pitcher of the Year. New Mexico State second baseman Xardiel Cotto was named Newcomer of the Year, while South Alabama pitcher P.J. Walters was named the Freshman of the Year. Steve Peterson was named Coach of the Year for leading Middle Tennessee to the 2004 Sun Belt regular season co-championship.
