I think that the Sun Belt should get rid of designated games and adopt a round-robin schedule.

What is taking them so long to adopt a round-robin schedule. Are they just lazy.

Great statement there, David
We would all like to see the Sun Belt Conference lose the designated conference games. They took a big step towards that this year by eliminating most of them. A few teams play one this year, for Troy it is against Florida Atlantic.
What we don't want to see is the Sun Belt schools with contracts for games with TV time and/or paychecks miss out on those games to create a schedule like you are talking about.
Plus, thanks to the last ripple of conference realignments we are losing USU and NMSU next season, and we will be gaining FIU and FAU sometime in the future. This is probably going to mean some more designated games next year.
The Sun Belt would be probably be sitting pretty next year if we had not lost USU and NMSU. But we did. We're getting over it. These conference games are a better option than asking all the schools to miss out on $$$ games and TV time.

David, college football schedules are made years in advance. When you look at the schedule situations some of the games were scheduled while the schools were independent and needing to fill 11 non-conference games. Some were scheduled while schools were in the Big West or early in their membership in the Sun Belt. Those games were scheduled to fill a slate of 5 non-conference games. A few were scheduled to round out a 4 game non-conference slate.
The league was looking to have an 8 game schedule this so a number of schools came up short available games. Even with a 7 game slate some were overbooked.

They shouldn't be allowed to make schedules that far in advance. Don't they know teams change conferences like is no tomorrow. Who do they think they are? Charlie Brown!

actually the Conferences for the most part had been very stable for the past 10-15 years and just in the last 2-3 years has there been great upheaval.
