The University of Louisiana at Monroe landed its man on Wednesday when Alabama-Birmingham senior associate athletics director Bobby Staub accepted an offer to become the school’s athletics director.

ULM was seeking a replacement from Bruce Hanks, who announced his resignation in March.

Staub was the first to interview for the position on June 7, and he returned Monday for a second visit to Monroe. After receiving an offer from ULM president Jim Cofer on Monday night, Staub and his wife Laura returned home on Tuesday to Birmingham to ponder the offer.

Staub has been at UAB since 1984-85, working as Assistant Athletic Ticket Manager and Ticket Manager from 1984-1989.

Leading up to his current position, he also has served as Director of Marketing (1989-90), Assistant Athletic Director (1990-1995) and Associate Athletic Director (1995-1997).

He is in his first-year as a member of the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee, and is a also a member of the Faculty Athletic Committee, the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. He has been the Tournament Manager for the Conference USA Men's Basketball Championships and is the Department Chairman for the Collegiate Licensing Company.

A 03-puke UA'sB assistant, eh? Oh well, I won't hold that against them. ULM is still cool in my book. My bet is that this Staub guy is going to get *really* agressive about building winning programs at ULM. I don't know much about ULM's other sports besides football, but I bet some of their coaches are already updating their resumes and trying to sell their houses.

Congrats to ULM for taking two big steps forward, first by joining the SBC all sports and second by a smart AD hire.

GO TROJANS! GO INDIANS! GO SUN BELT!

Bobby Staub is a great hire for ULM. He will be a great asset. Maybe we can schedule some games in the future.
