I would love to see them upset twice in September, on the 2nd and the 18th (when we play them :D ).

*Gateway Conference game
Out of conference I think WKU will finish 3-1 with the loss coming in the season opener. In conference play, I suspect that we will encounter a loss or two along the way somewhere most likely either against Northern Iowa or Southern Illinois (both road games). The balance in the Gateway Conference from top to bottom is incredible, you have to come prepared to play every Saturday else you may well lose.

Last season, the Gateway was the first I-AA conference to have 4 teams make the 16 team I-AA Playoff field. I'm hoping for a repeat of 2002, in which we lost our seson opener against K-State and then went on to win the national championship. It will be tough, but if the team comes together and the newcomers really step up it is not unrealistic that the Toppers could be champs again.

09/04 at Kansas State

There's always hope, but let's face it... keeping it close would be a moral victory. 0-1.

09/11 Concord (W.Va.)

This is a winner. 1-1

09/18 at Eastern Kentucky

This is a dangerous and improved EKU team. They will have a huge crowd and they want this one bad. It wasn't close last year so I will still call it for the Toppers BUT if we lose this one it probably means our season. 2-1

09/25 at Florida International

This game is very winnable, but also very losable. I am inclined to question this on the schedule. We have little to gain by playing FIU and a lot to lose. I think I would have preferred an OVC team or something here that is more of a garaunteed win. Again if we lose this game it could seriously hurt our NCAA chances. 2-2 (hope I'm wrong.)

10/02 Youngstown State*

Win this one at home. 3-2

10/09 at Northern Iowa*

We lose a tough one on the road. 3-3

10/16 at Southern Illinois*

Toppers stun them on the road. Again, a game that could cost us the postseason. 4-3

10/23 Indiana State*

Tops win easily. 5-3

10/30 Illinois State*

WKU wins a battle. 6-3

11/06 at Southwest Missouri St*

Another tough road loss. 6-4

11/13 Western Illinois*

WKU gets the must-win at home. 7-4

7-4 is a realistic prediction. I could easily see us winning the FIU game but losing another conference game. There is very little room for error on this schedule. Don't mean to be pessamistic but one wrong step could cost us the postseason. On the other hand, if we do make the post season this team should be fire tested and ready to make a run.

BEST CASE SCENARIO:
9-2 1 or 2 seed.

WORST CASE SCENARIO:
6-5 No post season.

The FIU game is a return visit from when they came to Bowling Green in 2002. It was initially to have been played last year but WKU had it pushed back a year once the opportunity arose to play Auburn.

We should defeat FIU, I think they only went 2-7 last year, or something like that. They are still in 1-A transition.

I am hoping for 8-3, 7-4 could happen though.

If you are referring to the original FIU game, it was 56-7 in favor of WKU. The game was played in Bowling Green on 9/12/02.
