Make your best guess for attendance at each home game. All home games count, conference game or not.

09/11 MISSOURI -- 30,000 (or bust!)
10/02 UTAH STATE -- 20,000
10/30 IDAHO -- 19,000
11/06 FLORIDA ATLANTIC -- 19,000
11/20 MIDDLE TENNESSEE -- 28,000

Average attendance = 23,200

Remember, this is just guessing for fun, *not* a competition. Please folks...no wagering. :D

GO TROJANS!

10/23 McNeese State – 9,000
11/13 Georgia Southern (Homecoming) – 13,000
11/27 Florida A&M (@ Miami Orange Bowl)– 57,000

Average attendance = Approx. 18,900+

That would be pretty good for FIU. I'm hoping you're correct on most of those. I think we have the capacity to get numbers like those if we have a winning season. We have to be able to put some W's up.

This is the way I see it this season. Hopefully, I'm just being too conservative, but this is as optimistic as I see it now considering our history.....

Jacksonville 8,000
WKU 7,500
ULL 8,000
McNeese 6,500
GSU 10,000
FAMU 35,000

Average Attendance: 12,500 Still short of the 15,000 but an improvement of around 44% over last year.

FIU Fanatic,

I have to disagree with you regarding the FAMU game (aka The Orange Blossom Classic). The fact is that South Florida is a "big event town". This event will attract many more than just 35,000 in my opinion.
If you look at the weekend of the game, FIU/FAMU could not have picked a better day 04-bow

The Miami Dolphins are away on the westcoast for the two weekends surrounding the date:
11/21 @ Seattle Seahawks
11/28 @ San Francisco 49ers

The Miami Hurricanes DO NOT have a game that weekend:
11/20 vs Wake Forest
12/4 vs Virginia Tech

FAU will be playing against NAIA Edward Waters @ 4:00pm at Lockhart (Hard to imagine anyone aside from die-hard FAU fans will be at the game due to the Orange Blossom Classic)

The Florida Marlins' season will be over by then.

The ONLY event that may draw any fans away from our event will be a Miami Heat game (i.e. Shaq) and at the time of my typing this very line, the schedule has not come out yet to verify a date.

Unless, you are a fan of Disney's Beauty and the Beast and can possibly fit 35,000+ fans into the Actors Playhouse in Coral Gables
05-nono, you will not draw away from this event.

Now to my next point:
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) know how to throw big time events, especially "Classics". This will attract just about every high school (i.e. Northwestern, Edison, Carol City, etc.) in the area because they have already planned a "Battle of the Bands". This includes the bands and the football players only. Not to mention the hugh amount of FAMU alumni in the So. Fla. area. The event will be broadcast, without a doubt, all over the radio stations. This will, hands down, be the event of the weekend. So I guarantee (and you can call me on it if I'm wrong) that more than 35,000 will be at the event. This is the main reason why FIU has scheduled them as a home game. This will, without fail, push our average over the 15,000 NCAA minimum.
I GUARANTEE IT!!! 04-cheers

well, like most of our schools I think our attendence will depend in large part on 2 things: weather and winning. We have, what I feel, is a great home schedule. By that I mean (and no offense intended toward our western SBC brothers) we have all southern SBC teams coming to Cajun Field this season. I hope we will see a lot of Blue Raider, Indian, Mean Green and Trojan fans at the Swamp.

09/04 NORTHWESTERN STATE 6:00 p.m. (First Game of the Season)
First game, always descent home attendence = 17,000

09/25 MIDDLE TENNESSEE* 6:00 p.m. (ESPN Regional)
First home SBC game. If we have defeated NSU and at least played well vs. LaTech should be good attendence for this one as well. P.S. It is very important to have evening games in September. = 17,000

10/23 ARKANSAS STATE* 4:00 p.m. (Homecoming)
Here is where it gets tricky. Homecoming is always good for attendence. If we have a winning record at this point, the attendence could be huge. If not it will at least be above 15,000. My guess = 20,500

11/05 NORTH TEXAS* 9:00 p.m. (ESPN2)
See above. If we are in the thick of the SBC title race at this point, I expect no less than a sellout. If not could be tough on a Friday night. My guess = 27,500

11/13 TROY UNIVERSITY* 4:00 p.m. (Senior Day)
Again, see above. My guess = 24,000

Total average = 21,200

This is going to be allowed to be counted as an FIU home game!?

I don't even know if you'll get that many fans for that game. I know FAMU-BCC draw big, but that's an all black game. Will FIU/FAMU draw big too? I don't know how it can be a home game if the overwhelming number of fans will be for FAMU, and/or don't care about the game.

This is not slamming FIU, becasue MANY other universities use this practice. I just think it's ridiculous that teams can play their "home games" in basically other cities and count them towards attendance.

Is'nt FIU located in Miami 03-confused It may be played in a different stadium but is'nt it still in the same city?

The reason the game is being held at the Orange Bowl (in Miami just like FIU is) is because both universities are predicting an overwhelming turnout. This was originally a home game for FIU. Our little stadium (FIU Community Stadium) would not be able to hold the overwhelming number of the expected fans and alumni. Our stadium, in year #1 held a little over 17,000 fans. Last year (year #2), they extracted some bleachers and shrunk the number to 12,000 for reasons that only they know. This year they have again reverted back to the old set-up of 17,000+. Even with that said, we are still expecting alot more than 17,000 fans for this game. A good number of the people at the game will be neutral and will come for the "Battle of the Bands".

In case you didn't know, FAMU is in Tallahassee, but Miami has always been a main hub and had a huge number of FAMU alumni. We are reviving a game that was last held between FAMU and Miami in 2002.

This is a game where we are playing at a bigger stadium due to the circumstances of not having a big field of our own. The City of Miami owns the Orange Bowl, not U of Miami. And regarding "using this practice", Miami has never been a town that attends anything unless it is a big event. This is true across the board which includes the Florida Marlins, the Miami Heat, UM games (unless they play the big name teams), and yes even the Miami Dolphins. FIU is at a much greater disadvantage because the football team is still young and trying to create a tradition which includes finding our own identity and stepping out of UM's shadow. This is just an advertisement to the community to let them know that there is another team in Miami aside from the Hurricanes.
This game is simply a matter of scheduling a state school that happens to draw a big crowd due to a huge number of alumns in the big city in which the event is being held and just happens to be in our hometown."

P.S. Sorry to take up so much of your board space, Trojans1andAll.

ARod you make too much sense with your arguments. I hope you are right, and the fact mostly nobody will be playing that weekend and all...it makes a lot of sense. I kind of forgot all the "side events" that will take place that weekend. Hopefully, as you stated, it will become the marquee event of the week in Miami on Thanksgiving weekend. The battle of the bands, the basketball game the previous night, the Bill Cosby event, the many FAMU and HBCU alumni in the area, the (hopefully) massive media coverage/marketing efforts, the game.........You may be right......

As stated by ARod and others, the Orange Bowl is in Miami, not in Tallahassee, and is being played there due to the large crowd expected that can't be accomodated in The Cage at FIU. Obviously, it is a home game for FIU for all the reasons given before....I'm sure if the game would be played at the Citrus Bowl, you'd get a lot of people that normally wouldn't go to games to watch UCF play...would this mean it shouldn't count as a Home game for UCF?

I believe this move by FIU administrators is just brilliant, especially given the circumstances surrounding I-A football right now. They just have to help make this event a success, and also strive for better marketing and efforts to drum up success at the previous Home games played in our campus.....

I guess I must give credit to the FIU administration.

Rallying up 30,000 FAMU fans and black communities is going to work wonders for the FIU attendance average :)

In this situation (location), FIU and FAMU are both benefiting evenly from this game. 04-cheers
FIU is getting the chance to show off their program on a big time stage. They will be able to host a very popular game and revive the “Orange Blossom Classic

Unfortunately ASU will have a tough time with most of our home games at the end of a tough year. We have a tough schedule, young defense and November games are hard to get crowds...we did real well last year but still had something to fight for at the end...so here goes:

September 18th Memphis....25,000 at least...still hope in the season if we play decent against LSU and Missouri

October 18th Troy State...20,000 maybe...it's Homecoming and we are still starved for football but if the wheels have come off too much, due to the brutal schedule, attendance could be hurt.

November 11th Utah State...10,000...it will be cold, at night, on a Thursday and most fickles fans will opt to watch it on TV...the out of town crowd will have trouble making the game.

November 18th North Texas...10,000...UNT's name will keep the crowd from being embarassingly low...see excuses for the USU game. The SBC did us no favors by scheduling 2 back-to-back Thursday games at the end of the season in November...TV is a poor consolation.

If we do as good as I say we still make the 15K average with a little to spare. If the team does better than expected despite the schedule attendance could be as high as 15K for the last two games...there is hope!

Alright, here goes.

Sept 4th - NW St. - 20,000 (opening games are always good for decent crowds)

Sept. 25th - MT - 15,000 (if we lose to La Tech and Kstate, while winning vs NW St, we'll have a losing record at the time and thus quell a sort of bigger audience"

Oct.23rd - Arkansas State - 20,000 (coming back for homecoming is a big thing after you do well and look to possibly have a winning record)

Nov. 5th - North Texas - 20,000 (psh...national TV? Need I say more. We packed the dome with over 11,000 people when we played WKU on TV, and if this game has any sort of meaning in the conference race, it will have more than its share of fans there)

Nov.13th - Troy - 16,000(late season game, depending on the outcome of the UNT game, we should have an alright crowd, not a great crowd, but an alright one.)

Overall for the season - 18,200
