Oh, by the way, my favorite SBC stadiums besides Troy are Middle Tennessee and ULM. For those of you asking yourself "Why ULM?"
the answer is I don't know, there is something in the design, the flow, the feng-shui, or whatever I just find almost hypnotic. I've just always loved the look of ULM's stadium.

GO TROJANS!

The only thing that saves Fouts Field to me is the friendly fans and the kettle corn.

The seats are too far from the field. The stands rise at a very low angle meaning the upper rows are a LOOOONG way from the action. I suspect that the last sideline row at Indian Stadium, Cajun Field, Floyd, Movie Gallery, or Malone is quite a bit closer to the action than the comporable row at Fouts. There bathrooms are a mess as well.

I'll be a homer & vote for Indian Stadium. The picture above is a few years dated. Our new football complex is not shown.

I have not been to many other SBC stadiums. But NTSU is the worst.

I have been to the Cajun Dome, but not to The Swamp! However, based upon my long time association with ULL (Get Clickin' With USL!) I will have to vote for The Swamp.

Do any of you guys remember the 'Get Clickin' With USL' year(s)? Careful as you will date yourself :D

I'll try to find some better shots, but this will do for now.

Here's the football complex just before it was officially finished.

I've been to the following stadiums: ASU, ULM, ULL, MTSU, UNT

ASU...very cozy now that the new football complex and jumbotron are up in the south endzone...it now holds the sound in the stadium and can get quite loud. The lower deck is raised enough from the field to give good views but the view from the upper deck is great if you like to watch plays develop. The upper deck is close to the field too. In the future, I hope to see us expand the press box, put a nice brick facade around the upper deck on the student side and eventually fill in the bottom bowl corners on the north side as well as add an upper deck in the north endzone...it could be expanded to approximately 50K.

ULM...the home side is really tall and with a little paint could be real nice...the opposite side and end zone are bleachers so it doesn't have quite as cozy a feel as ASU's but if they ever redid the east stands to match the west stands it could be an awesome stadium...plenty of room for expansion too.

ULL...probably the best setup for a true big time stadium if they ever filled in the endzones and double decked the student side. I saw the stadium several years ago and it needed some refurbishing...lots of potential though...very cozy.

MTSU...nice cozy bowled-in flavor and the seats are very close to the field. Stadium is not very tall and upper deck seats are my favorite to get a good look at the action...lower level seats are close but a little too low...very nice altogether...not a whole lot of room for expansion unless major changes are made.

UNT...sorry but UNT deserves better...as Arkstfan said, the stands are too far away from the field due to the track and the rise angle is flat so even on the top row you don't get a real good view of the field...a new stadium is a must for UNT...start from scratch.

Troy's stadium looks very nice and is comparable to MTSU, ULL & ASU.

FIU's stadium appears to be somewhat comparable to FAU with the low bleachers. FAU's stadium is probably a little better than FIU's but not as good as UNT...hard to tell though.

The latest estimates I heard is that the student side upper deck would cost about $46 million and filling in the end zones would cost about $6 million.
Cali, from what i'm hearing, it won't be a true upper deck on the East side but a row of skyboxes for the fat cats to have their parties. That's fine with me.
I hope they don't make the luxury boxes so that it would have to be torn down to have the upper deck.

I drove through Troy last fall on my way back from Florida to Murfreesboro. I was very impressed by the Movie Gallery stadium. I wish I could have seen it on a gameday, but all in good time I guess. The city of Troy seems to really embrace the school. The Trojan emblem was everywhere.

Question for MaXx.

The picture in your posts says "FIU Community Stadium". Did the city put up part of the money for the stadium like Troy? Does the stadium host high school games or any other non-FIU events? Last, how old is the stadium and who decided on that design?

Just curious. Glad to have FIU coming to the Sun Belt. :)

GO TROJANS!

Well to answer your questions I'll just post what's on the FIU site, it pretty much answers everything you asked.

Quote:The FIU football team trains and plays at the on-campus facility, FIU Stadium, located on University Park, 11200 Southwest 8 Street, Miami.

Opened in the fall of 1995 at a cost of more than $3 million, the stadium is situated on land that straddles the university and Miami-Dade County-owned Tamiami Park. This cooperative effort with the State of Florida, Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreation, the county commission and the Dade County Youth Fair, Inc., was the first known project in South Florida that involved a partnership of state, county and private interests.

As upgrades to the stadium, the university invested another $825,000 for the installation of its state-of-the-art AstroPlay artificial playing surface. Billed as a new concept in turf systems, it is a grass-like, non-abrasive, polyethylene fiver matrix that is filled with special rubber granules. Field drainage is superb.

For the 2004 season, seating capacity is set at 17,000+ with an ultimate goal of building a 30,000-seat stadium (with long-range capability to expand).

Besides FIU athletics, the stadium remains a primary venue for high school football and track competitions and special events. Several of the university’s commencement exercises, homecoming festivities and concerts have all take place there.

That's just part of the stadium description, if you want to read more about it you can read here:
