Only two teams have released schedules so far, and already the SBC has eleven games against teams from last year's top 8 conferences.

I read somewhere that FIU has a game schedule @ UConn in basketball. 04-drinky

In addition, we also host the Hurricanes this year.

Hopefully our new coach will be up to the challenge.

This is exciting news that several sunbelt teams are beefing up thier schedule. Playing BCS conference teams will boost RPI for the conference and playing tougher opponents will sharpen the skills of the conference's players. High tide raises all ships! IMO this is the ONLY way for the Sunbelt to get multiple bids or respectable seeding in the NCAA's. This is very good news.

Now that the football question has been settled for the forseeable future for the BELT, the most pressing issue for WW and all member schools is GET THE 2nd BID and WIN GAMES in the tourney.

Hilltopper fans should not be so quick to bail on SUNBELT basketball.

Hilltopper fans should not be so quick to bail on SUNBELT basketball.

I think that there is a formula for successful *&%-majors in basketball. But some programs in the Sunbelt seem to have been resigned to mediocrity in basketball (certainly not the Cajuns, Nation.) I don't mean to put any one down, I mean it more as a call to action. :ninja: In the past we have had a hard time scheduling big name teams for a home and home because they have nothing to gain by playing us. And as much as that ticks me off, part of me doesn't blame them. We hurt thier RPI. But if the conference RPI was higher, then I think we would have a whole lot easier time playing big name teams home and home. And if a Sunbelt team is ever going to make it back to the final four, realistically you need a 4 seed or higher.

Its just that I think that the barriers for national competition are lower in basketball than in football.

Number one seed? Final Four? National championship? Its true that there is very little that any one team can do to change people's perception of the Sunbelt. But there is a whole lot that we can do as a conference. This thread suggests to me that this might just be happening. Sorry for rambling.

Last year we played Miami and Stanford. This year, like Maxx said, we host Miami (should be fun and we should win) and I too heard about the away game at UCONN. We also played USF and FAU away last year. This year I think both games are return games but I could be way off base. I'd be surprised if at least one isn't a return game. We also play FAMU on the run up to the football game at home.

I'm sure Sergio will spice up the schedule this year and for years to come. He was quite busy on the recruiting trail this year and the conference should see a vastly improved team this year out of FIU. Expect to see us run like crazy.

That's great news. The Toppers are going to be a running team also for the forseeable future. I look forward to some track meets with you guys! Those games are fun to watch!
