OU transfer Rawls ineligible to play at La. Tech
By The Associated Press
RUSTON -- Brent Rawls, a quarterback who transfered from Oklahoma, is academically ineligible to play for Louisiana Tech this fall.
"Right now, he's not going to be a part of the team," coach Jack Bicknell said from the Reno, Nev., airport where he was returning from the Western Athletic Conference media days. "I wish him the best of luck."
Rawls, 6-foot-5, 215-pounds, played at Shreveport's Evangel Christian and one of Oklahoma's prized signees.
After redshirting his freshman season, he competed with Jason White for the Sooners' starting quarterback slot in the spring of 2003. But Rawls injured his thumb in a scrimmage and then fell out of a pickup truck, which resulted in a concussion.
White became the starter and eventually won the Heisman Trophy, while Rawls transferred to Louisiana Tech in September 2003.
Rawls was expected to compete against Matt Kubik, Donald Allen and Zac Champion for the Bulldogs' starting job. But Rawls suffered a broken bone in his throwing hand in an off-the-field incident before spring workouts.
He underwent surgery and did not participate in spring drills.

Sounds like one to many off the field accidents. I wonder what he does off the field.

He's just another in a long line of Evangel high stars who have turned out to be bust.

Let's hope our former Evangel player does well this season

I hope it doesn't happen to us - we've got one (JD Booty) who we're banking on as "the future." Luckily we've got some depth, so if the bust trend continues, we should be covered.

It is strange to be reading something from a website in Lafayette when I should have read it in the Monore Newsstar, but I don't read the paper that often. Oh well, I'm glad that someone is passing the information along. I will have to start reading the paper more often to keep up with La. Tech and ULM.

The Monore Newsstar had two articles about ULM this morning. One of articles talked about new faces could play big roles for ULM. One interesting thing was that plan on a Aug. 21 practice and scrimmiage in Shreveport. The paper also menotied that the second coach Weatherbie camp at ULM attracts170-plus players saturday. The Advertiser had a good article about LSU ,but really nothing about UL. Sometimes I wonder if the University of La. at Lafayette is located in the same city as the Advertiser. Oh. Yes, they had an article about La. Tech also.
