Part of the reason the boards went down... by default apache has a maximum of 250 connections. We shattered that to pieces and had to set apache to accept 500 connections at the same time... that's quite an assload of people on, considering that every person on won't be making a request every second. That means we had close to 750 to 1,000 on the site at the same time.
