The Toppers showed a lot of heart and hung with a good 1A team on the road. The Gateway is going to have trouble with these guys.

This could be a great season for the Hilltoppers, but I am going to try not to let this one game get me too stoked! But we are better than I thought.

Hey Jeff, we play the Cats in 2 weeks. What can you tell us about them? I know that Sproles is a Heisman canidate, but any other things that we may need to know. Maybe it was first game jitters for them or it might be a down year for KSU. Think the Cajuns have a chance after the way WKU played?
Also, congrats on hanging in their with them. Hope we can do the same!

Gee thanks for the credit. (Down year? First game jitters ?) I am just too darned proud of they way these guys played to have you be so dismissive. Comments like these make me wish WKU was in the Sunbelt for football. Naw I am just giving you a hard way to go. But seriously, WKU hung in there with them for real. It wasn't just some fumbles that kept us in the game or one of thier recievers running the ball into the wrong endzone. They kept thier starters in the whole game. The Topper defense made several goal line stands. If I'm not mistaken Sproles burned us for 200 yards.
Do the Cajuns have a chance? Absolutely. But give the Toppers some credit.

If you can stop Sproles, you can win. If you cannot contain him, game over. He is the real deal. WKU defense is usually pretty good at the run, but we couldn't stop the guy.. he carried the ball over 40 times for 200+ yards.
Their defense seemed to have a hard time with the pass. I think that is why we did better this year than years past. Our offense passes more than we used to.
Honeslty, this team didn't look like the #12 team in the nation, either that or WKU is just that good. Probably a little bit of both. WKU definitely wasn't just lucky. We stuck with them, and this game could have been a lot different if a couple things happened.
One, the refs misunderstood our captains, we said we wanted to defer, and they thought we said defend... so KSU got to receive both halves, scoring on both runs.
We also were within inches of a touchdown. It could have been a one-touchdown or less game if those two things happened.
Best of luck. I hope KSU has a great season, so our game looks like a real accomplishment. I feel more confident about WKU going 1-A now than ever.

Well you darn well should feel confident about WKU's abilities after that KSU game; you guys were awesome. I kept checking the score all evening and yelling 'Go Toppers'. WKU can definitely play with the big boys; it would be awesome if you were playing SBC football this year.
Go WKU!!!
Go SBC Football!!!
