Resilience is something few teams show in a season opener. After all, it's the first game.
What would the team be coming back from? Where's the adversity? Nevertheless, MTSU showed it last Saturday in a 31-24 win over Akron, only on a smaller scale.
After MTSU built a 14-0 lead, its comfort level was steadily shaved away by an Akron squad gaining momentum in front of its home-opening crowd.
The Zips turned a Blue Raiders' turnover into an 80-yard scoring drive and cut the lead in half. MTSU's ensuing series was then ended by a fumble deep in Akron territory.
The stage was set for the Blue Raiders to lose their composure and hang their heads in a tough road game turning sour. They didn't.
