The gadget play that backfired on Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday night didn't catch Arkansas State napping.
After recovering a key fumble in the final two minutes and beating ULM 28-21 at Malone Stadium, Arkansas State coaches and players said that they worked on the play all week in practice.
"We were all familiar with the play," ASU co-defensive coordinator Kevin Corless told The Jonesboro Sun after the game. "We practiced it every day all week long. It's called the 'Homecoming play' because you like to use it at homecoming and in playoff games, big things like that. As soon as they lined up like that, the whole defense, the whole sideline, started yelling, 'Homecoming!' It ended up being a big factor in the ballgame."
