As long as we're dreaming... how about this for a conference:

Sunbelt West:

Arkansas St.
Louisiana Lafayette
Louisiana Monroe
Louisiana Tech
North Texas
UAB

Sunbelt East:

MTSU
Western Kentucky
Troy St.
Georgia Southern
FIU
FAU

This is my semi realistic dream conference.

The way I see it the Sunbelt really only has three things going against it right now. No championship game, minimal TV coverage, and only one bowl game. If the Sunbelt can build on the success its had this season, then the TV coverage will get better. TV demand will also create pressure for a second bowl game. And if the TV deals and the bowl game come about then these other teams might become interested as a "package deal." In other words teams that might not necessarily be interested in the Sunbelt as is might change thier minds if some other "established" teams joined also. Kind of like a domino effect. The Sunbelt is definately at a crossroads right now. The ultimate success or failure of the conference could very well be decided in the next few years. Good luck to WW.

I did indeed. My apologies to the FAU fans.

PS- Incidently someone on the Haven stated that AD Wood Selig confirmed the stadium expansion at WKU. Other than a power point slide seen on the WKU website and a lot of word of mouth this is the first official confirmation that the expansion is going to happen. I think it goes without saying that WKU would not go to this expense if 1A football was not on the way.

Didn't Georgia Southern's AD bash the sunbelt conference? 03-confused I don't think they'll be joining us any time in the next 5 years, unless that person is removed.

Yep. Sure did. BUT they already meet the attendance requirement and they are one of the better AA teams out there AND they are a good geographic fit. I am just wondering if recent success in the conference and the prospect of a 12 team + championship type situation would change thier outlook. I did say "while we are dreaming."

Their AD is an outspoken GOOBER, but I doubt that he speaks for the majority of Georgia Southern types.

Go SBC Football!!!

WKU is going IA. The only thing left is an official announcement which I'd bet will come early to mid 2005.

Now if we are talking conference alignment I'd take H2K's 12 fb teams and add 4 very high quality BB teams that play IAA. Not saying I'd want to leave USA, UNO, and UALR out in the cold. However, it would be sweet to have a 16 team BB conf that could produce decent RPIs within itself and send 3 teams to the tourney. If they had strong IAA fb teams they would also be insurance if someone left or couldn't meet the requirements. Realistically, looking at the geography who would that be? Ummm, beats the monkey crap out of me.
