Keep in mind, this was a Minnesota team that went to a bowl the year before.

RECAP....

Halfback Chad Brinker caught a touchdown
pass, threw another and rushed for 119 yards and a score as Ohio
held the ball for more than 40 minutes and recorded a stunning
23-17 victory over Minnesota.

Coming off a 25-15 loss at Iowa State, the Bearcats (1-1) were
three-touchdown underdogs against a Minnesota team that rolled
over Louisiana-Monroe, 47-10, in its season opener.

But Ohio avenged last season's 33-7 defeat with a wishbone
attack that amassed 363 yards on the ground. Dontrell Jackson
completed only 2-of-8 passes, but one of the completions was a
50-yarder to Brinker four minutes into the game that gave the
Bobcats a 6-0 lead.

Brinker threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Joe Mohler before the
first quarter ended, and Ohio took a 13-0 cushion into the
locker room.

But the Golden Gophers (1-1) roared back in the third quarter
behind freshman Asad Abdul-Khaliq, who threw touchdown passes of
65 and 61 yards to Ron Johnson. The scores came on the second
play of consecutive drives.

Unfazed, Ohio answered with a 13-play, 54-yard march that
consumed more than six minutes and ended with Kevin Kerr's
43-yard field goal that put the Bobcats ahead for good, 16-14.

After Minnesota's Dan Nystrom missed a 37-yard field goal
attempt, freshman Keland Logan broke off a 67-yard run to set up
Brinker's six-yard touchdown with 14:42 left in the fourth
quarter.

Nystrom answered with a 47-yard field goal with 4:54 to play,
but the Bobcats were able to run out the clock and defeated the
Gophers for the first time in nine all-time meetings (1-7-1). It
was Ohio's first win over a Big Ten Conference foe since a 14-12
triumph at Northwestern in 1973.

Abdul-Khaliq was only 10-of-28 for 223 yards and two TDs. He
also ran 10 times for 50 yards, but Minnesota committed two
turnovers and was only 3-of-12 on third-down conversions.

I was at that game. OHIO FOOTBALL played pretty well. And, 'sota was both not that good (at least at that point) and probably overlooked OHIO FOOTBALL in a big way....I bet 'sota's opinion of themselves and OHIO FOOTBALL at 1 p.m. that Saturday was very, very different from their opinions on those same topics at about 4:30 p.m. on that Saturday.

Grobe rules.

also to be noted was that the Gophers returned to a bowl later that season AND beat the buckeyes in Columbus. I laughed hard that day.
