LAFAYETTE — This looks like a good fit.

Opelousas Catholic quarterback Dustin Miller, who has helped spark the Vikings to an impressive 6-0 start this season, has verbally committed to UL Lafayette for the 2005 signing class.

Miller will be tried at cornerback at UL, and will also play center field in baseball in the spring.

Dustin Miller seems like he is a good athlete, but no blue chipper unless it's in baseball. He is 5'9" and weighs 190 lbs. What does he run the 40 in and what is his batting average?

The questions about Miller is not his speed, 4.43, but can he make the transition to defense. He is an excellent athlete and he hit over .400 in American Legion Ball. No he is not on any list of the top 50 players in La. College recruiters are not beating down the doors of his district to scout talent. He is the best athlete in that district. He is larger then two of our CB's that play in the defense rotation now. (Carter and Adams.) As for Blue Chippers, they don't come to SunBelt programs unless they are props,ie:
UL-Delvin Williams UNT- Domorio Thomas.

Jerry Babb
Bill Sampy
C.C. Brown
Antwain Spann
Brandon Cox
Greg Hodges

All these guys didn't show up on a Blue Chip list, yet they all have a good chance to be named on the All-Conference Team. You must find athletes at this level and coach them up in a few years.

I do not remember us ever having a "blue chipper" coming out of high school that saw the field for us. Red we are not Oklahoma or Texas. Why do you continue to judge what we are doing by these programs standards? If you judge recruiting that way then you must judge the overall program that way also. If that is the case:

Where is all the money schools like Texas get for a recruiting budget?
Where are the 60,000 to 90,000 screaming Cajun fans packing Cajun Field on Saturday's?
When are we going to win the Big 12 championship?
When is the next time we will be on ABC primetime vs Florida State?
Oh yeah, this will be our 12th year in a row to post a winning record, 7 of the 12 we have won the conference championship and went on to win 4 of 7 bowl games we went to.
Our indoor practice field is second to none in the country. The University of Tennessee is coming down to model their new practice field and weight rooms after ours.

That is the kind of things the "blue chippers" go after in a program. Why should Adrian Peterson (for example), the freshman Running Back from Texas who now plays for Oklahoma, come play for UL instead of OU? Are you kidding me? We are no where near that point.

Sorry about all the blue talk but you can still wish. How did La. Tech get Moats, the third leading rusher from a big high school in Texas.? You have to go out and sell the college and yourself to guys that are juniors in high school and just keep in touch every way that is possible.

We have such a guy in Lafayette at Northside right now. He could be the answer to our running offense that is so badly needed in future years.

By the way, how is the new indoor arena coming along. I never hear or read anything about it.

I wish that we could recruit guys that are in the top 100 players in the state. I don't think that is too much to ask for do you.

I would bet that Moats was not considered a "blue chipper" coming out of high school. Was he a good player? I am sure he was and perhaps was even recruited by some of the "bigger" schools. But believe me, he was no blue chip prospect or he would not be at LaTech.

Going by one recruiting list (Dandy Don) OL Larry Shappley is the #11 player in the state, QB Brian Babin is #22, and OL Eric Block is #27. That is 3 of the top 100 in state we are rumored to be after. I may have missed 1 or 2.

I would be happy to get Shappley and Block, you can never ever have enough linemen.

I agree with you about the Northside RB, I really hope he has his grades and his act together (not that I have heard anything bad about him because I have not) and becomes a Ragin' Cajun. I can tell you this staff seems to take very few chances om questionable students. With his size he would be a great asset.

Swamphound, I thank you for the words of wisdom. I hope that the Williams guy can improve his grades and learning abilities at Northside and the coaches here locally can stay in close contact. He would make a great assest to a team because he is a consistent good runner every week. I have to agree with that the addition of those other two players you mentioned would help the cajuns next year.

Boy, that was something about Lucas Taylor breaking the state rushing record with 539 yards. Everybody will be calling him now.

Your right, if they were not already they will be. I think Taylor may make a good RB but all I have heard is WR or CB.
