1) WKU will probably go I-A; I don't know what conference. But I-A is in the works.
2) I think WKU fans are just frustrated with the conference decline. Long before MTSU joined the SBC, when WKU first joined the SBC in 1982, it was a TOUGH basketball conference. Many schools in the OVC critize WKU for joining the SBC, but at the time it was a stellar move for WKU. It commonly got multiple bids to the NCAA's AND multiple bids to the NIT:
1978-79: NCAA: Jacksonville and South Al
79-80: NCAA: Virgina Commonwealth, USA; NIT: JU, and UAB
80-81: NCAA: VCU, UAB; NIT: USF USA
82-83: NCAA: VCU, UAB; NIT: USF, ODU
83-84: NCAA: VCU, USAB; NIT: ODU, USA
84-85: NCAA: VCU, UAB, ODU; NIT: USF - THREE NCAA TEAMS
85-86: NCAA: JU, WKU, UAB, ODU - FOUR NCAA TEAMS
86-87: NCAA: UAB, WKU; NIT: JU
87-88: NCAA: UNCC; NIT: VCU, ODU
88-89: NCAA: USA; NIT: UNCC, UAB
89-90: NCAA: USF, UAB
90-91: NCAA: USA; NIT: UAB, USF
91-92: NCAA: UL LAFAYETTE; NIT: TECH, WKU
92-93: NCAA: UL LAFAYETTE, WKU; NIT: UNO
Since 1993, We've (SBC) only had a single bid to the NCAA and only only half the time do we get a NIT bid. The conference according to basketball has gone down hill. Basketball is life at WKU. So you can see the frustration. SBC is NOT what it used to be. I think that is the fustration.
