With tonight's 77-68 win over Western Kentucky, Denver is now 20-9 and has beaten everyone in the Sun Belt at least once. If we beat ULL or FIU tommorrow night it is off to the Big Dance we go for our first time ever after only 5 years back in DI. If we lose we should have a strong enough record to go to the NIT for the second time ever.
Also this strong season should help us begin to get the respect that Coach Carrol deserves and help us go forward in getting into a strong western league now that all the rest of the western teams will be gone from the Belt next year. Puck Swami and I have been saying it over and over that the Mid Continent or some new western league with the Southern Utah's, South Dakoda's and Northern Colorado's is not going to do anything for us but save on travel money. Sure we could join one of these leagues and immediately be their strongest program, but that is not what we need to become one of the best Mid- Major men's basketball programs in the country like the rest of our athletic teams. We need either the West Coast Conference or Missouri Valley unless the WAC or Mountain West will look at us without football. Thanks again to the Sun Belt fans on this board for finally giving us some respect and may we represent the Belt well either in the NCAA or the NIT.
and if we lose we should still have

MTSU - 19 wins, WKU - 21 wins, Denver -20 wins, UL- 19 wins...all of them will get NIT bids....a ton of teams get NIT bids...they all start out with regional tourneys...then the best face off on MSG for the final brackets. Denver is doing a great job, they can represent the SUnbelt well with with inside and outside talent. And of course UL has the "the Predator"... Tirus Wade. A force Arnold Swcharzenegger wouldn't even want to see again.

Well, I think WKU will get a NIT BID, along with whoever loses outta UL/Denver. Denver loses, they get an NIT game but itll be on the road, UL Loses, they get a home NIT game prlly. MT is on the bubble as far as NIT is concerned, UALR should get in but that loss in the first round really hurt em, and you gotta believe that it will weigh on the minds of NIT Selection commitee. My thought as someone with no sort of real research on the subject is, either UL/Denver get NCAA, the loser goes to the NIT with WKU, and either MT or UALR.

I wonder if the fact we beat WKU will matter. :D

Acctually, that win against SIU and the win against the cajuns are both quality wins should help out your chances. Even with only 1 team in the NCAAs, this is going to be a good year for us as far as the NIT is concerned, and if we atleast do some damage there, it will build momentum to get more respect next year.

Tuffguy, the NIT is all about regional hubs and matchups. Should Vandy and Memphis not make it to the tourney, MTSU is going to use that in the Tennessee area. Kermit Davis stated the other day that they are going to use a possible match-up with Vandy as a selling point. Tennesee Tech could be another matchup as well, with Memphis in the Mix. Perhaps WKU as well?
MTSU will get in, 18 wins is basically the cutoff, so we could see a few Sunbelt teams in the tourney this year as Denver, Western Kentucky and LA Lafayette all received At-Large consideration at some point.

Wutnup, MTSU stands no chance of an NIT bid. Your RPI is +100. Their are two many other teams in the SBC that would get one before MTSU, such as UALR, Denver, and WKU. SBC will NOT get four NIT teams, will likely not even get three. It will be interesting to see who gets NIT, but my bet is two of those three teams-- Denver, WKU, or UALR.

Well, not so fast. I think WKU and Denver are the only 2 solid teams with for sure NIT bids, WKU because of their RPI and reputation, and Denver because their regular season conference champions and the fact that some of the western teams who get NIT bits will need opponents, insert denver here. UALR has a good record, and does have the eastern division championship, but that loss in the first round hurt them, MT also had some problems but lost to a better team in the tourny than UALR did. My point is, I dont know whats gonna happen, but I think WKU and Denver are fine for NIT bids.

Tuffguy, everything I am hearing is the same. WKU is a LOCK.. i've been told. Already in communication. Denver is the likely other. UALR is on the outside looking in. MTSU... no shot.
