PrimeRateWKUFan Wrote:Hate to say it, but MTSU was the only program (when we were both in the OVC) that held an edge on WKU in football. If I'm not mistaken, they lead us by 1 game. Last game I was present when we played them, WKU beat MTSU 54-0, but that was in the late 70s. Not really sure we've played them since (probably have, but just don't recall off hand).
That 54-0 win was in the last year (1978) of the Ben Hurt regime at Middle Tennessee. The seventies were a bad decade for MT football. Wku won the next two years as it took Boots Donnelly several years to get the Raider program on its feet. From 1981 to 1991 (the last year MT & WKU played) there were ten games played and MT won eight of those last ten games.
The last game was in BG, was MT QB Kelly holcomb's freshman year and he led the Raiders to a come from behind win. WKU used a transfer QB (Jewell) from MT in the coaches box to pick up the sideline signals, which infuriated Boots and he said he would never play WKU again in FB as long as Harbaugh was coach and he was true to his word.

I agree. Don't you wish you could see North Texas take on Western Kentucky?
