It appears that the old Kent State showed up in the 2nd quarter and 2nd half.

At least Kent still plays YSU, eventhough this may be the last game. The Zippy's will go play teams like Howard & Cal Poly but will not play YSU because YSU owns them. BTW, Cal Poly will give the Zips all they can handle 10/11.

KSU played Cal Poly last year and their O gave them all them could handle. They are not a bad 1-AA team at all. Akron better watch themselves in that one.

axeme Wrote::rofl: A bit bitter, Zippy?

Hard to take the way our offense rolled over those guys you had on the field (I hesitate to them "defense") and that our defense completely stuffed your vaunted O , 3 and out twice, when the game was on the line. And on your field, too. Face it, the better team won.
As long as you keep trying to believe your losses were wins, like your coach, you'll be happy to play teams close, then let the excuses fly.
You guys should beat the IAA's on your creampuff schedule and you do have EMU and Buffalo, so you should get 1or 2 MAC wins.
Game plan tip: try not to give up back to back TDs late in the 4th quarter when it really matters.  Like, two games in a row??? 03-nutkick
Ouch!
1) Sure I'm bitter. Losing to Kent is HUMILIATING. But I'll say it again since you haven't disagreed: Kent has already peaked for the season and will be lucky to win another game while the rest of the East division fears their game with Akron. We could have been tied with Wisconsin midway through the 4th quarter Sat. if we wanted moral victories whereas Kent was still thrilled with their win at Akron and consequently rolled over for Pitt.

2) Please decide amongst yourselves whether Cal Poly is a "creampuff" or a good I-AA team. You Kent folk seem conflicted about this.

YSU aspires to play the Akrons and the Kents, so why don't they step up to Div. I-A and force the issue? Akron took a good B10 team deep into the 4th qtr. Sat. while YSU played ??? (I don't know and neither do many other college football fans around the country).

It would be nice to beat the Penguins but I'd rather see and win a game against Marshall, Miami/Roethlisburger or UCF/Schneider.

Good luck in the playoffs, if you make it.

You are simply delusional, Zippy.
Teams are afraid of playing Akron?
Is it because of your glorious MAC history under Owens?
Your awesome 5th place finish last year?
But we are used to it: every year we hear about how the Zips are going to be contenders for the MAC titles in football and basketball and every year the results are the same. I'm sure we'll hear it again this hoops season, too. That's OK, you're good and loyal fans.
The other MAC teams can watch the game tape of the Zip-Flashes game. Hype and spin won't cut it.
You guys have the best schedule in the conference this year: OOC with Wisconsin, UCONN, Howard, and Cal Poly. (It was a YSU fan who said Cal Poly was tough, BTW. I think you guys should crush them) We have YSU, UCONN, Pitt and Penn State, to compare. And cross div.: you have EMU and CMU. We have Ball St. and BG. That's good for you--you are set up to have one of your best records in the last several years if you can finish some of these teams off. Could've, would've seems to your theme, but finally it's only the wins or losses.
Good luck with EMU this year! Should be a dandy again!

Zippy,
Taking a minute to really look over how you schedule shapes up for the season, I more understand your disappointment over your loss to us.
Obviously, game #1 was a huge game for both teams, a rivalry game that is a bitter pill to whomever loses and a very tough way to start the season. But you guys then have EMU and Buffalo (with Howard in the middle) and could have conceivably been 3-0 in the MAC and 4-1 overall before you hit the tough part of the schedule in October. With an upset of Miami or Marshall or UCF, you could have been looking at a 7-4 or 8-3 and 6-2 in the MAC with a chance at the title. My best guess now is that you will be 5-6 or 6-5. We would take that, having the schedule we have (substitute BG for EMU and Penn St. for Cal Poly--I figure Ball and CMU are a wash) even with our win over you guys. Have you noticed that UCONN has stepped it up big time? That becomes a tough OOC game for anyone now.
Oh, as for that feeling of humiliation you have? Isn't that the goal for the winner of this game to provide that to the losers? Who would you rather by humiliated by, besides your local brethren? 03-wink

YSU tried if you remember to gain acceptance into the MAC back in the mid 90's but a "no" vote by Akron and Kent kept out YSU. Instead they chose those mighty Buffaloes, nice pick! Give YSU another 20+ scholarships and 2-3 years and they would surpass Akron. Last time YSU played Akron was 95 when YSU finished 3-8 and they still beat the zips 24-10. Akron must have had enough after that.

Frankly speaking from a KSU point of view, I'm glad they kept YSU out. There is no room for 3 MAC schools within 60 miles of each other. I'm still of the opinion that letting Akron in was a mistake. It took any recruting, attendance, and marketing advantage that KSU may have had away. There are too many MAC schools in Ohio as is. There may be fewer in the future...

Zippy,

Just keep repeating:

1. If we would have scored just 18 more points, we would have beaten Wisconsin. (Would have said if your defense could have stopped them, but then again it is Akron. After allowing a 99 yard scoring play from scrimmage, who'd believe that? )

2. In some universe not yet discovered, 38 is more than 41.

3. Lee Owens is a GREAT coach.

for the season you expected.
