I know we are in the middle of college football season but the 2003-2004 basketball schedule is in. I'm enjoying the football season so far but honestly, I can't wait for college basketball to get underway. I am anxious to see how this team responds to losing Gates. There are some good players on this team, but I wonder if the returning players can sustain a high level of play over the entire season. I say this because last year when Gates was hurt...the team had that late season collapse. Any thoughts?

No bigboys on the list (maybe Boston College), but Detroit and St. B. will be a battle. I also like
the fact that we have 4 home games in a row in late Feb. This is a good schedual for this team
as every one of those games ARE WINABLE with this team.

So who will step up and be this years leader? I think it would have to be Eric Haut; He has played
since his Freshman year starting with that team that one its first NCAA tourny game over Indiana.
He does not know what losing is with this team and has been around some great leaders in
Massey, Huffman, Gates, Mitchel and Shaw. All that hardwork and success should carry over
with the great recruits coming in plus a load of experience back (even a transfer coming in);
Gates is a tough loss but there is talent and experince here to keep the machine rolling!!

I keep hearing about how great Akron is going to be (that have some shooters).....but I heard the same thing when they were supposed to dominate the MAC a few years ago with Andrick, Bosley
and Ball....it never happend and they still have the same coach

They have the same problem that Marshall did. Coach can recruit, but can't motivate or coach. Are his kids still on the team? Ugh?

I'm optimistic about this year. Schedule is light on RPI; maybe difficult to get a bid without the MAC tourney title. But, then again, what's new? I think this year's team will make another run for the title; don't discount the coaching staff getting a year under their belts working together and going once around the MAC. With all the junior talent I think '04-'05 should be even more fun. Maybe another deep March run?

BC and SWMS will be waiting for us. Both are probable still stinging over tough OT road losses to the Flashes. SWMS is supposed to be one of the mid major sleepers this year. Winnable games still, and great March tune ups.

Does anybody know more about the mystery JUCO transfer?

Akron is loaded. Just more motivation for the Flashes.

Flashfan:

The mystery JUCCO transfer was something I read in the Record Courrier paper about a
month ago and (I can't remember his name) it said that the player originally started
and played his Freshman season for St. Louis University (The Billikins?) averaged (if I can
remember right) about 9 pts a game for his first year. He had problems with maintaining his
grades left and went to a JUCCO for a year to get his grades back on track and (since
he has set out a year of basketball) should be eligible to play this season. He goes 6' 6"
and about 230 and was considered a major prospect for St. Louis until he left.

The Courrier also reported that another transfer (JUCCO) had been signed by Kent but
would have to sit out this year. I don't have much info on this guy except he goes 6' 8".

I noticed that the summer prospectus did not list John Merritt or Brandon Roach on the roster
for the upcoming 2003-04 season; now they have room for the transfers if Merritt and Roach
are gone (?) - I'm surprised that they have not updated the roster list and signee list at the
mens site.

Also: Does anyone know when the new Atletic Web site is going to be opened?

I sent Will Roberson, SID at Kent, an e-mail last week on the same question. No response yet, but will post any response I receive.

are we going to be able to see a few more games on local TV this year??? Is the web site going to be up???
Is anybody who isn't a graduate of the university going to care???? Probably not. That's Kent's sports marketing department.

I know I'm beating a dead horse, I just want things to get better.

GO FLASHES!!!

I know what your saying Radioboy; its frustrating at times for everyone. The paper has been
touting the great School of Business that Kent now has; maybe they need some of those
marketing experts from the School of Business to take over and show the Athletic Department
how they should really be doing things. :chair:

They are sitting on one of the great unknowns in college athletics (well... not football...yet) and
they don't know what to do with it!!!!!!!!!!! 03-banghead
