Interesting article. Pees slams Owens and Akron, too.

I don't agree with Dean on many things. But he's right on these points.
It's good for the area to have a KSU-YSU game. BTW, coach, if we don't get better in the next year and boost the attendance, we could play them every year in the Gateway conference.
And, Akron is afraid to play the Penguins.

I agree, the series b/n YSu & Kent should continue. Akron would rather play teams like Howard (what a joke) and Cal Poly rather than YSU.
In that Tribune article Pees was much too generous in saying that YSU QB Marshall is a IA player. He should not be YSU's starting QB, as I'm sure you noticed he missed wide open receivers and cannot run.

King Guin,
The YSU running game is top notch. I agree you guys need to find a QB. Had it not been for the fact that he couldn't hit open guys, you might have routed the Flashes. Good luck the rest of the year! I hear that WIU is a bear this year. Aren't they called the Leathernecks? Cool nickname.

I would like to think the rivalry will continue, but I don't know how Kent finds room for YSU on the schedule in an 11 game season with 5 other home games against I-A teams. Assuming that your fifth home game and fifth road game each year is against a I-A non-BCS team that you play a home and home with to meet the games requirement.
That leaves your 11th game as a big money road game like Penn State for $300k or $400 k or home against YSU.
Of course, you might need the attendance from the YSU fans to meet the 15k requirement more than you need the $$ from the Penn States.

I now see our coach's problem. He does not know the difference between 1-a and 1-aa talent. Tell him to line up the players that he played against this week beside the players he played against last week. That my dear coach, will show you the difference. Or, just watch Toledo, Marshall, or Bowling Green. With your eyes, we will never have a good team.

Good Luck to the Flashes the rest of the way also. Yes WIU will win the Gateway and should be in the IAA title game come Dec. Their roster is full of IA transfers. WIU was only down to LSU 13-0 at the half Sat, then the LSU talent and depth beat them in the second half 35-7. Yes they are the Leathernecks with a Bulldog for a mascot. They always have great skilled players.
As far as YSU, the running will carry us as usual but in the past we have always had a QB that could throw when he had to. We have a true freshman from Boardman that we have high hopes for who was #2 QB at the start but he broke his collarbone in the first game. Otherwise he may of been starting by game 4 or 5.

Wow, just checked out the YSU message board for post game reaction. Man are they a bunch of sore losers. I think that we, KSU fans, are fairly garcious in victory and defeat. These guys...
1. The crowd wasn't 20K. Uh, yes it was.
2. Someone says that they have insider info that KSU will drop football instead of going 1-AA. Uh, then why spend millions to add the new stands instead of removing the old and leaving it empty. Not a great investment.
Geez, guys. Lighten up. You lost. Neither team played particularly well. See you in a couple of years.

We are a spoiled bunch, just very frustrated that our program is not what it used to be or what it should be. Plain and simple you can't win when you turn the ball over 5 times. Give Kent credit for making the plays when they had to. And yes Kent fans have been gracious winners. I expected some comments after the game as I went to my car but did not hear one negative comment toward YSU.
