For those of us in the parts of the country still stuck in this bitter winter .... baseball season started this weekend!! Though it was with a loss to Kentucky 2-3 ... it means warmer weather is on the way. Seems they were hit hard by graduation and the MLB draft, but just like the bball team, they have a strong tradition of MAC titles. Bring on Spring!!!!!!

I kind of asked this question on the main board...but baseball confuses me...I know Kent is very good but ehn watching the CWS I have never seen Kent in it or many "Mid" major schools...Does Kent and the MAC play in regionals against O State or big ten teams in order to make it to the CWS...is it more selective than the B-Ball Tourney.

If a MAC team, or other mid-majors win their conference they go to NCAA regionals. Not sure how many regions there are or if a team can get an at large bid from the MAC. If a team wins the regional they go to a Super Regional and then if they win that they go to the CWS.

In 2001 and 2002 Kent made it to the regionals by winning the MAC tourney. I remember going to a few games at the regional in Columbus at OSU. Kent lost their first game to Miss. State. They came out of the losers bracket by beating O-State and Delaware, but lost to Miss. State again. The game against O-State was awesome, Kent won the game in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off HR, at OSU's field, it was great! In 2002 at South Bend for the regional they lost their first two games, the second one to O-State again I believe.

So for a mid-major to make the CWS they have to be pretty damn good, catch teams off guard and beat some teams twice ... tough to do.

Thank you for the info Sir!

I see, when Baseball does get to TV. it normally is in the Super Regional stage? Most MAC teams, Kent, Don't quite get that far most years so that is why I never see them on TV. I guess thier is hope because I have seen creighton make it a few times and I know they are not a "Major" school.
