Kent State promotes Martin to head football coach

February 29, 2004
KENT, Ohio (AP) -- Kent State offensive coordinator Doug Martin is being promoted to head football coach.

Martin's offense scored 30 or more points in each of the final six games last season, when the Golden Flashes went 5-7.

Before coming to Kent State, Martin was an assistant coach for 11 years at East Carolina.

He replaces Dean Pees, who took a job last week as linebackers coach for the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots after six seasons at the Mid-American Conference school.

Sorry Flash, I was just a minute to late in posting this news release.

I saw it on the MAC board first but wanted to see it myself from another source to confirm its validity. No offense to the Marshall fan who first posted it on the board.

From my post on the same subject, you will see that I am pleased with Kennedy's selection of head coach. Under the circumstances, I believe Martin is the best choice for Kent and believe that he will be successful. Martin has a good staff to work with and I trust the players feel the same way.
