Rockets7 Wrote:I have been known to wear Ohio State hats at some UT games, but true fans don't watch other games during the UT game.

Putting my bias aside, I would guess that those really weren't true BG fans. They were probably drawn to the game because College Gameday was there, not for either NIU or BG.

I would classify the real BG fans as the ones that consistently attend BG games even during the poor to mediocre seasons of the past ten years (with the exception of this last year).
Better do some fact checking there bud. Ohio State played at Indiana on October 25th and the game was either a noon or 12:30 start and was over before the BG-NIU game started at 4:15.

I believe the game in question was when we hosted Kent State on November 15th and Ohio State was hosting Purdue. The people were in the tent watching the end of the OSU game because it had implications on BG's SOS and because it was a cold and rainy day and it was dry and warm in the tent.

Anyways, if BG can bring more fans to the Motor City Bowl than Toledo did the year before and draw nearly as many fans per game when the surrounding area is nothing but a farm field from your slanted perspective doesn't that equate to Toledo having less loyal or fewer fans? And before you start your normal mantra, the NIU game was 99% sold out before GameDay even announced they were going to be at the game.

And BTW - This last season was the third consecutive 8 win or more season for the Falcons with two of the seasons including victories over the new MAC superpower.

Not making any accuses for fair-weather fans (pun intended) but I was not in the tent, I was out in the cold and rain with my step-son the entire game.

I don't watch OSU when I am at home either. Also, the OSU game ended about the same time the Kent game started so it is pretty much a much ado about nothing thing, but if it amuses your pea brain than have at it

The "tent" incident did happen during the Kent game. That game was on the same day as the UT/NIU game. We all know how well the UT faithful turned out for that one...

I think we've reached a point where were arguing about who's chihuahua weighs more. BG averaged 21k or so, UT averaged 22k or so. In the world of college football, both figures are somewhat laughable considering the caliber of teams we've fielded.

Maybe so, but I think that UTs attendance will be significantly better than BGs this year.

Well, with BG on your home sked, you'll have great attendance for that game!

BG's home sked is SE Missouri State, Marshall, Ball State, Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan.

BG will do fine with attendance again in '04 cuz the program has been re-established on a rock solid foundation. Considering our average attendance in 2000 was around 8,800 per game....We've almost tripled that in 3 short years.

BG continues to move forward while it looks as if UT has taken a step back. Expect that to continue in '04 as we win the West title again! 04-rock

I wouldn't bank on that. You're drawing fewer people each year, we're increasing attendance (and enrollment) every year. BG has the radio network, the coaches show availble nationwide on Fox, great coverage in the Blade and ESPN loves us! UT has Mark Byner (or whatever his name is) bleating like sheep on WSPD and....well, that's about all you've got.

If we can get the Eastern Michigan game scheduled on homecoming or parent's weekend, that will help boost the crowd for the only real dog on our schedule. Marshall coming to town is an almost certain sellout. That's the type of match up that will draw Gameday!!!

With nothing to play for this year, GameDay will not host another BG game and probably will not host another MAC game anyway.

Flipper, you said that UT has Mark Byers is "bleating like a sheep on WSPD." I am sorry please excuse my ignorance. It has been a while since I have been to the West Virginiaesque hills of Wood County, but is bleating the noise that sheep make? Oh, that reminds me of a joke that I once heard. Oh well, I'll save that one for later.

You are right that ESPN and The Blade love BG. I'll give you a tip though, when you are promoting those media outlets that give you a name, I would leave The Toledo Blade out of it. That kind of hurts your argument. Also, don't say anything about the "Toledo News." Both are crap. Good job of reeling in ESPN though.

And Redwingtom said something to the fact that BG sold more tickets to the Motor City Bowl. Again, where was Brandon selling the tickets? I'll give you a hint, he wasn't selling them in the hills. He sold his tickets out of the mall at Westfield Shoppingtown which is about 5 blocks and 4 minutes from my house. I know this because I read it on one of Northwestern's websites before they played you in this bowl. And yes, they too were making fun of you for it. That was the point of their article. 05-nono

BG's so called radio network is a joke and you know it. You have more stations obvouisly butt WSPD reaches more people than all of BG's radio combined. So you got that one station that reaches four pig farmers out in the boon docks... good for you. 03-lol

Flipper, not only was your post one of the most enjoyable I have read in a looooong time 03-lol 03-lol 03-lol , you also hit the nail right on the head. TJ just doesn't get it and has yet to post anything on any site that would lead anyone to believe that he possesses an ounce of intelligence.
TJ, do us all a favor and go away. No one likes you and no one appreciates your laughable, ignorant, stupid, idiotic posts. 03-banghead

WHK and WKNR alternate the broadcasts. Those stations cover Cleveland, Akron and Canton.

Face the facts, lil' Rockette...when it comes to marketing athletics and the university, TU runs a poor second in NW Ohio.

All right...I posted this thread and I do admit that it was done with intentions of getting you guys stirred up. You guys have had good points but so have TJ and I. Regardless, I saw one of your posters say this earlier and it was a good point: this is like arguing over who's chihuahua is bigger. So, I think we can agree to disagree and TJ and I will be on our merry way.

I don't blame you boys for bailing on this thread. You've presented your point of view in most lackluster manner.

"If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. If they won't let you join 'em, run away..." :)

WHK and WKNR  ??? Are you sure those stations cover Akron and Canton??? Are you for certain??? Do you honestly believe that you have more listeners on those two stations combined than WSPD??? If you go to WSPD you are gonna find some info on the Rockets, front page. Now let see what happens when yo go to the "other" guys radio stations...

<a href='http://www.whkradio.com/default.asp' target='_blank'>WHK 1220</a>
:withstupid: Nothing on BG athletics there. 03-lol Oh btw, im sure there are a large group of listeners who are more than happy to miss the "Jay the gospel Kid" for BG football.

and then there is this cute little station that has about 27 listeners...
<a href='http://www.keener13.com/' target='_blank'>WKNR 850</a>
:withstupid:

Im sure you felt like a big man typing out those cute little stations call letters, but the fact is birdboy those stations much like the university you cheer for are jokes, jokes that have no audiences. :ownd:

I cant wait to hear your spin on this. 03-lol  03-lol

Ummmmm.... WSPD is barely in the top five or six stations in a jerkwater market like Toledo. What audience it has is drawn by right wing fanatics like Limbaugh and Beck. UT is covered by Mark Byner on a single radio station that barely makes a dent in its own market. BG is heard on stations that allow our many prosperous alumni to hear Falcon athletics be they listening in Toledo, Sandusky, Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Defiance, Lima, Fremont, Findlay and points south to Dayton, east to the PA border and West into Indiana. When the hamster gets tired of turning the wheel, WSPD is barely heard on the east side. That's a shame because east Toledoans are the intellectual giants most suited to your quaint little community college/crack house.

Deal with it boy, BG generates far more media coverage in Ohio because we're a University on the rise. Our athletes are covered for their achievements on the field of play and in the classroom, not in the judicial system.

Time and time again you ask me to demonstrate to the people reading this thread that you are a clueless idiot and time and time again I more than happily oblige you. There's something to be said for consistency, I suppose...
