RE: North Texas
UNT 13 Lamar 0 near end of 1st.

UNT shows a weird formation sort of wing T left but then the slot receiver right is back of the line a step so there are 5 in the backfield. Did that a couple times and stripes didnt call it. Hard for the D to make their calls.

QB similar to Wolff last year, pitch and catch. Players #1, 3, 4, and 6 all very fast and shifty, the run precision routes, ball comes out quick. Gonna be a problem.

Not going to learn much from them playing Lamar.

But they are mid-level G5 and it’ll provide a clearer benchmark of where we stand.

In TNT Top 10 P5 power poll, North Texas ranked 8th.

RE: North Texas
I guess they’re a tougher task than I thought. We open as double-digit underdogs in our own house (10.5). We lose, we open the season 0-3, which will do wonders for fan interest.

I watch UNT a lot. They throw it around and will try to turn the game into a track meet. WMU will have to run and possess the football.

RE: North Texas
I don't know much about North Texas other than what I read in Lindy's CFB magazine (picked for ninth in AAC).

And they blew out FCS Lamar in their opener.

Way our defense played 2nd half vs. MSU gives some optimism.

NTSU was 118th in country in Scoring defense last year, 127th in Total Defense, and has a new DC.

Hopefully we can get our offense going at home this week.

Yep, looking ahead, any FCS school ranked in the Top 10 (RI is #8) would compete for a MAC title.

I don't know, the win vs their FCS seems scary, but last year, they beat one team with a winning record. This s/b a toss-up at least

They also beat our bowl game opponent, south Alabama, in week 1 last year

RE: North Texas
Taylor said he'll play both Jones and Lowry again this week.

There's a depth chart this week in the game notes, but it's pretty much what we saw in week 1. Some guys that before the season we expected to contribute are nowhere to be found, possibly injured. No Jordon Thomas, Marvin Smith, Popeye Williams, Domanick Moon (I think he's injured), Cole Cabana (injured).

So I guess OOC play is just preseason. I liked it better when we pretended to try and win all the games.

When has that ever happened? What year specifically?

And before you say it, this years schedule when booked is no different than 2016.

Dave's referring to playing-alternating both QBs (Jones and Lowery), not the schedule itself.

Except northwestern and Illinois both sucked that year.

At least Illinois did, plus Illinois wasn’t ranked like they are now.
