I agree for the vast majority of MSU/Memphis fans. But for the types that spend an excessive amount of time on sports forums and comment on articles (myself included), they don’t forget such things and they don’t move on. Of those, not all will be openly disparaging, but many will.

So I do think some of those negative comments on Emoni are from resentful MSU fans (as Frank suggests). Other negative comments are probably from racists who think because Emoni is black is he is a thug (as Nickle suggested). And other negative comments are from those unsatisfied with their own lives so they revel in someone else’s demise (as others have suggested perhaps in different words).

It doesn’t matter though. To quote the lil nas x song that my kids listen to:

Just a note MSU just signed a top 5 recruiting class. They will survive without Bates on their roster. I suspect Memphis will as well. I don't think Bates is a thug but I could see how being pulled over with 4 oz.of pot when you are under 21 and having a gun in the car with the ID marks filed off might give folks a negative impression. He made a youthful mistake and he's paying for it. Folks should give him credit for that.

To further note, your comments on Emoni ironically substantiates my other point.

But it is all good. I did not mean to demean MSU alum/fans (my wife, my niece, etc are such). And I did not mean to introduce tensions with a debate on race. Just trying to point out 2 of the 3 reasons I believe people are so negatively commenting on Emoni when it is of no concern to them or their lives… if not for that, I have no idea why they do it.

If you are calling me a racist be upfront about it. My comment is not racially based. I explained why someone might think negatively about him based on his actions and the publicity surrounding same. I know some MSU fans are jerks but the vast majority are not. I have a daughter with her master's and PHD from MSU. I have alot of respect for the school

I am not calling you a racist. But I am insinuating you have biased perspectives. I have no basis for that other than my perspectives on your post, so I probably should have refrained. For that I apologize.

As for MSU, I am not saying anything bad about it at all. No apologies there.
