This is total BS, but I think Mazi Smith is not as big a name as Emoni Bates. I only casually watch UM football, but I know the names of McArthy, Corum, etc. Mazi Smith is not that prominent and probably never will make the cover of sports illustrated. The higher you climb, the more people want to see you fall.

That and Michigan fans are absurd.

I think a big difference is one was arrested and the other wasn't. Or at least that's how I'm reading it. One was also admittedly high and there are no reports of that in the other.
But I'm admittedly pretty dumb when it comes to legalese so maybe there's no difference between the two and you're exactly right.

Though I will say that Mazi Smith has gotten some shine recently. I know he was mentioned multiple times Saturday and he's a pretty highly regarded interior lineman. But those types of players don't get the spotlight, especially cover of SI shine.

Based on an article at ESPN, both were arrested, but Emoni was held until charges could be made (law says has to be within 48 hours after arrest), and Smith was released pending review and potential charges by the prosecutor. So the prosecutor was able to wait seven games before making it public.

Ah yes, it is known as the "Seven Game, Go Blue" rule. Any criminal offenses committed within the first half of the season, shall be subject to a 7-game hold or after the OSU game, which ever occurs later.
