The small gathering at the DAC today got to see a really exciting, yet really frustrating game. In the first half, Drexel really took advantage of the ACU fouls by scoring from the foul line. Drexel lead by as much as 9 in the first half and even at halftime when Drexel was up by 5, I really felt that Drexel was the better team and would pull away and win handily if they could just cut down on the turnovers. They were dominating ACU on the boards and out shooting them by a considerable margin.

2nd half was extremely frustrating as they let ACU not only get back into the game but took a 5 point lead late. Dan, you say that the defense was atrocious, but I really didn't see the defense as the problem. The problem today was the sloppy offense, and not taking care of the basketball. Actually it was Drexel's defense, especially some amazing stops from Butler that allowed Drexel to get back to the game. ACU lead 73-68 with 6:15 to go, and the score stayed the same until Walton's 2 FT's with 4:41. The ESPN win probability chart gave ACU a 78.4% chance of winning the game under 5 minutes to play. So ACU scored just 2 points in the final 6:15, and I will give Drexel's lockdown defense credit for allowing them to get back into the game despite continuing to turn the ball over.

Evan, good points on Walton. with the last few possessions He really struggled late in the game, but bailed himself out with the miracle shot at the end.

One question I have is regarding last second offenses. Drexel did this during the last play in OT, and ACU was the same way at the end of regulation. Why are teams afraid to try to run a play in the final seconds. What is it with this run the clock down to 5 seconds and attempt a miracle 3 point shot? Drexel has been doing this for many years, and it almost always backfires. Why can't they run the office and try to get a shot inside and at least try to draw a foul?
