Even though UNCW didn't score the ball at a high clip, they played the game at a high level on both ends. Their offense looked good and dare I say the defense looked improved too. Kai did a good job of handling the ball, as did Philips, and they got some really good looks. Hawks have some guys that can create advantage plays off the dribble or screens. They had some very well designed plays off screening action going to the cup against ELITE bigs. They worked hard and together to make it tough.

The one glaring stat to me was 5-28 from 3. You can say that Skaggs shouldn't take the shots, but that is what he is, a great shooter that could not hit at all tonight. You won't see that performance very often from him. He can shoot the pill and if 1 went down, it would have been a bomb session. Estime is better than that too and missed shots that he can make in his sleep, very good shooter. Sims is such an all around player that he will get his each night/excellent player.

Bottom line from this game, they never backed down once, even shooting a terrible percentage. They looked light years better in their offensive flow and had more paint points that UNC. Yes, that's right. They have to build on this performance. The score really didn't even reflect the differential to me tonight because they hung in there against an elite team but were missing shot after shot.

And, yes, UNC is an elite team period. They have the best guard in college hoops and have more size than pretty much anybody. It's a shame that the UNC guy got hurt and they brought in the Tribe guy because he won the game for them as a 5th year senior that can hit 3's like crazy.

Staff has done a good job getting talent and they played well tonight regardless of coming up short. All 3 freshmen were nice and the 2 soph players, Sims and Linsen, also were good. Folks, these guys are going to be here for a while and will get even better.

Onto the Camels. If they play ball like this, it's a W with ease. And, their hair styles looked fine to me! In fact, I like them!

You always take it just a bit too far. Agree with you on Phillips and Simms. But to call a guy with a .386 career percentage from 3 (prob lower now) “Great” couldn’t possibly be more of a stretch. That said I’m sure he’s a decent shooter, but as 33 said he’s just rushing(jacking up shots). He needs to take shots more within the flow of the offense and not just be a launch pad. Jacking a three in the first five seconds of the shot clock isn’t good for the offense or defense. In fact UNC blew this game open when we fell in love with quick threes and were not hitting.

And to call UNC “elite” at this stage is also a stretch. And Elite team would blow the doors off of UNCW. Also to call a guy with two college games in his career(one of which he took 24 shots to get 20 points) the best guard in all of college basketball is also a stretch. Could he be, sure. But not at this stage.

But maybe I should just take your word because “you are very good at player evaluation “ toot your own horn much?

Yeah and don't forget what he said about giving Phillips 20 minutes a game from now on. Kid looks good and can drive the ball! I think he is tough mentally too. BUT in 22 mins of playing time so far he has 7 fouls 5 turnovers and 2 assists. So he wants Kai to go from 31 minutes a game to 20?? He was recruited to play the PG because he, like Kai, is not much of 3pt threat at the moment, so he's not gonna spend much time at the 2 spot (spacing reasons). They are very different types of PG. If he develops quickly and they end up sharing minutes I would envision one of them transferring. Add that to the list of things CB will have to deal with going forward, especially when Gadsen gets back and Okauru rediscovers his game. However, as a self proclaimed "very good player evaluator" he must certainly know most of this. lol
